https://fiber.google.com/savethedate/
Live broadcast over YouTube tomorrow. Anybody have any early news on this? Will it be available all over the Metro? How long will the waiting list be? Anybody know anything? I'm impatient. |

Highlights: The cable box is the size of a paperback novel, not that typical monstrosity Time Warner was putting out. The drawback of the cable box is that it does not display the time, I didn't realize how much I relied on that. I'm going to need a clock for my living room. The DVR is not in the cable box, so the DVR sits alone in my office and I can watch what's recorded on it on all my tv's, something I couldn't do with TWC. The guide is super smart. When watching a program, you can get all the info on it and the cast, sort of like a built in IMDb. Handy when trying to think of what you've seen that actor in before. Tablet works as a remote, although it can't control the volume. It is voice activated with is kind of cool when searching for programs. Remotes are bluetooth so you don't have to point it at the box. Installers are unique to your account, so if you have a service call in the future, they send the same guy. It was information overload and I have the tech savvyness of a 2nd trimester embryo with a due date of 1992, so it will be a lot of trial of and error in which I will likely only scratch the surface of its capabilities. |

Got hooked up today:
1) Wireless up/down speeds running between 195-200 MBPS 2) Ethernet connection up/down speeds running between 850-950 MBPS Streaming is amazing. Videos load basically instantly. Still see the hardware limitations of my computer - my personal laptop is not state-of-the-art/top of the line - but the internet feed is amazing.

Brookside. They are installing in the Western/63 neighborhood now.
Technician was great. And I must say... the Nexus 7 is a pretty slick little tablet.

At least on the Missouri side, Google has announced signup deadlines for nearly all of the original fiberhoods, so I'd expect some sort of announcement of expanding coverage before the new year.
They've already buried the conduit for their main run through Raytown, and might've already pulled the fiber. A month or so ago a crew ran a line down my street, so I'm hoping for service within 12-18 months. Anything to get rid of Time Warner. |

NEWS
Google Fiber deal with Overland Park stalls, deal with Lenexa set for vote September 17 The Overland Park City Council, concerned about liability issues in a tentative agreement, has put off for a month any endorsement of a deal with Google Fiber. Google Inc. had negotiated an agreement with city representatives that appeared to add Overland Park, the largest city in the Kansas City market where it’s yet to ink a deal, to the places it plans to sell ultra-fast Internet and TV subscriptions. But council members balked at their meeting Monday night after a wide-ranging discussion about the deal played out, mostly about liability issues. Meantime, Lenexa city officials appeared to reach a tentative agreement that could clear the way for Google to sell the Internet and TV service. The council was scheduled to vote on the agreement Tuesday night. So far, only in Overland Park has a tentative deal not been passed by a city council on its first hearing.
