Branden Albert has missed 9 games the last 2 years and has always been hurt. Fisher has had 1 minor injury the last 2 years and played 32 of the last 34 games at a pretty respectable level.

From what I'm seeing his average per year is $10.5 million. That's already 9th in the league.
In 1 year he'll most likely not be a top 10 paid LT. That actually seems pretty cheap considering more and more players will get bigger deals pushing him down the list of highest paid tackles.

Or, KC could have paid Albert (a lot less too) and put fisher at RT until Fisher was actually worth a crap, then moved him to LT and let Albert walk. Fact is Fisher has shown little to nothing to justify this contract.

Eric Fisher was much better in the second half of last year than the first. He's a young ascending player at a position of need. Those aren't cheap. He was drafted at 1.1 for a reason. The talent is there. He just needs to put it all together; which he started to do the second half of last season. The Chiefs are gambling that he will continue to get better.

As far as Albert goes, his last 2 years with us he had constant injury concerns and could never stay on the field consistently. That is why the Chiefs didn't want to give him a big long term deal. So Miami did. Then he promptly got injured and missed an entire season his first year in Miami. So I'm willing to give the Chiefs front office the benefit of the doubt that maybe they knew what they were doing on that one . . . . . .

Have you seen how signing Albert has worked out for the Dolphins?

They had to spend a top 15 pick on a LT again this year instead of getting a playmaker on defense.

That is what we are trying to avoid. Fisher is an acending player and if he picks up where he left off he should easily be a top 10 LT this year. He was good the second half of the season.

You strike me as very out of touch with the rest of the league and other teams. A lot of you Denver fans on here fit that description too.

Obviously making a contract offer to Berry, along with the tag, had bit of PR window-dressing to it. He gets paid as the top safety in 2016...so there is no real backlash from the fans/locker-room. He is being well compensated for his final year here. That was a slippery-slope situation to navigate...and his agent tried to exploit it. Dorsey handled it brilliantly. The two-sides weren't close for a reason...I dont think KC ever intended to invest that much at safety.

They viewed Fisher as a more pressing position....which he is.

Albert was always hurt and even by a slightest nick, he's crying. He also had back problems and that ended up Miami's problem, not us.

Hard to pay someone when they're on the sideline due to injury.

It's a gamble worth taking. The Chiefs O-Line has been a mess since about 2005.

Besides, as someone on here already mentioned, in a couple of years his yearly average salary won't even be in the top half of NFL starting LT's. The salary cap continues to rise and the price of doing business is going up.

Albert has now had both of his NFL teams draft his replacement. That says it all
