Yes, only if you have an elite defense. That's what people are getting at. His play only works with an elite defense as proven by the last half decade of his career. Be honest with yourself, without all the plays made and scores on defense, Alex game wouldn't be close to enough. It wouldn't be enough on majority of teams.

I wouldn't count on playoff anomalies. They will be ready for him to switch up the gameplan this time. And all these defenses are pretty solid, no sucky defenses like Alex has had the luxury of playing a couple times in the playoffs.

The fact is, when this offense has been aggressive and attacking. Alex Smith has been good enough this season.

Apparently after the Steelers game Reid gave Smith complete freedom. He was able to change plays and do things his way ala Peyton Manning. This was just on NFLN
