To Amazon Prime or NOT to Amazon Prime

Sorry if Q, but I'm on the fence about doing the whole Amazon Prime thing. Seems like getting rid of Netflix all but pays for it, but wanted to ask the opinions of others in this Mecca of awesome knowledge called Chiefs Planet..

Is Amazon Prime really worth it over eBay when you buy, let's say, 5-7 items a month? I ask because I always do the "price+shipping" deal, so it seem like it's a wash at some level. That being said, "Prime" would ALWAYS mean two-day shipping, and that's something I hardly ever do on eBay, so it could be a deal that makes it worth it enough to buy 15-20 things a month. The whole "eliminating some of the instant gratification culture/concern" deal...

Oh, and I've heard that if you use an "edu" account it's free for six months (perhaps not a big deal over a lifetime!!), but is then like half the cost. Does anybody know if that's true? If so, and it' the son who has the "edu" account, how does "Dad" pull off that scam without having the kid able to buy pretty-much anything he's ever wanted?

Thanks in advance... Just looking for some opinions before I leap...

The best thing is I don't have to wait to order a set amount of some things. I can order something tonight. If something else comes up tomorrow I'll just order it too, instead of other places where I might have to wait to "save" up an order.

I won't ask on the toothpicks but that's a painful fetish.

Is anybody else starting to notice an uptick in Amazon getting a tad shifty with their "Prime" definition?

I ordered a golf driver for my son Saturday, very much clicked the "Amazon Prime" refinement option, and thought it was odd that it might not get here until next week. There wasn't anything that said it was out of stock (which should simply result in nothing showing up, but I'd take red/bolded text warning you that they're currently out of stock!!), but no, only that the arrive date won't be until next week.

The trick they seem to be playing is the "Usually ships within x-y days" and "Note: Not eligible for Amazon Prime. Available with free Prime shipping from..." part that I swear you don't see until later.

I suppose I might be missing something, some fine print , when I'm making the actual purchase, but I've already seen a LOT more trouble on Amazon with non-Prime purchases as compared to eBay - they don't seem to monitor their resellers like eBay has to - and now I feel like they're slipping more and more tricks into their process, and I don't like it.

Unless it's just me, I'm thinking of suggesting that they have a refinement that actually means "Amazon Prime" (meaning "in stock" and "will be at your door two full business days from when you click your mouse")...

I had the same issue trying to order a driver. It seems like the default shaft flex/loft angle combination is prime eligible, but changing either component removes the prime eligibility

Can you post the link?

Two things I can think of: 1. Could be a third party; or 2. They might consider this one of the "large items," which takes longer to process.

I don't think it's No. 2.

I think T-Town got it. In my son's case his swing speed is 105-109, so I altered the shaft from regular to stiff.

The key was I had selected "Prime", so I was thinking it would stick, or at least warn me that I was changing.

It's all good, a week's not going to kill him, he has a pretty OK driver that'll work for another week. Some day maybe I'll get new clubs! But I'm pretty sure my issue isn't my clubs!

If you look at the link, it's sold and shipped from a third party. Has nothing to do with changing the shaft; third parties aren't Prime eligible unless they're fulfilled by Amazon. In this case, Amazon is basically just hosting a page for someone else to sell and ship. This is how it's always been with Amazon Prime.

The Senior shaft is eligible because, while it's sold by a third party, it's fulfilled by Amazon. So the seller has shipped the item to Amazon so they are responsible for fulfillment.

Will then, back to my original rant of them sneaking shit in then! I said "Prime" and that means "two days" (and they know that).

In the end it doesn't really matter, but just there's one little twist to its "Prime'ness" should mean the best part(s) of "Prime" are left out of the mix.

So Amazon needs to make sure that when people click "Prime", they only see stuff that'll get to their house in two days, or make even more levels of selectiveness.

They're kicking eBay's ass, but shit like this will let eBay back into the game!

Yeah, that too is their selective squishy company-favored calculating. They'll tell you the day you order it doesn't count (Saturday), that Sunday isn't a business day (and usually Saturday too), and in this case with today being a holiday that it doesn't count either. So in your case they think Tuesday is the first day that they're on the clock.

I'm learning Amazon's tricks very quickly, and adjusting to them...

It's always been business days. It ships Monday, so day 1 would be Tuesday and day 2 is Wednesday.

That's all true, but none of it is new and is pretty much the way ship times are calculated by all online businesses. They can't do much to make UPS and FedEx ship on the weekends.
