Alex Smith is a solid QB, sorry haters. Bucs win 5th game in a row.

Despite the common thought here that Alex Smith held down the team Sunday, Smith's overall production to the team yesterday graded out very positive in 3 rankings:
Smith: QBR 94.1, QB rating 99, PFF 71.9
Winston: QBR 83.6, QB rating 97, PFF 50.7

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...-for-bucs-win/

"Smith gained positive expected points (EPA) on 77 percent of his plays on Sunday, the second-highest rate for a QB in a game this season (Dak Prescott, 83 percent versus Chicago in Week 3). Put simply, more than three-fourths of his plays contributed to the team’s scoring margin, given the context and situation." - http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/p...s-excels-again

This is why we should use our brains instead of repeating the garbage fed to us by Mellinger and Teicher. If Smith only had 34 plays yesterday to do something with the ball and earns both a rushing and passing TD, a FG, to 1 INT (first red zone interception since 2013) and completes an outstanding 77% of passes ... we should probably focus on the real problem yesterday: The Defense. Who didn't show up and allowed Winston/Martin to hold the ball for 35 minutes, earn 24 first downs, and convert 68% of 3rd downs (league average is 40%).

Against the Bucs...

Alex Smith: 1 INT, 99 QB rating
Philip Rivers: 2 INTs, 80 QB rating
Russell Wilson: 2 INTs, 39 QB rating
Drew Brees: 3 INTs, 49 QB rating

RUN THE BALL. Alex Smith should pass 25 times per game MAX unless its a Pittsburgh scenario and you have to play catch up early.

It won't always be pretty every play but this OL is better than last year's and they were great running the football. This team can do it too. We've seen it.
I agree the play calling hasn't been great. A lot of uncharacteristic penalties on the line lately too.

In a perfect world we are running the ball 30-40 times a game with 20-25 pass attempts. Split those 20-25 amongst Maclin, Kelce, Hill, Conley and a few to HBs.

That's the way it needs to be.

We're just not getting the run blocking going... losing the battle in the trenches. No way I'm blaming WareBeast.

I suppose some can throw the blame at the QB.. saying that defenses crowd the LOS cuz they're not afraid of deep passes.. but I don't think that's often true. If it is, then Andy needs to get the deep passes going aplenty, in those cases. If it's not on Andy, then it's on Alex.. which would go back to Andy.. QB does what he's instructed to do, or he doesn't get on the field, and all.

Reid might be running the ball less because of how dinged up the backs are...we called Knile Davis back for example...and do we know how long JC is going to be out? I sure don't like giving Reid excuses, but that could be part of it.

Then Alex needs to step the **** up and start changing plays at the line. We've read articles about how he's done it in the past. Why isn't he doing it this season?

JC is on IR, that means 8 games so he can't play unless it's the playoffs even if he's ready.

The only hope this team has of making noise in the playoffs is if they get the running game rolling and have Ware and Charles or West all rolling too. Can't lean on just one guy for that long.

The way to beat Denver, Oakland, and New England this year is on the ground. None of them appear to be great at defending it. This is our only hope.

Alex Smith since 2015:

In Wins: 194 YPG, 23 TDs, 6 INTs

In Losses: 258 YPG, 6 TDs, 5 INTs

More passing = more yards = more losses in this case.

Let the game manager be a game manager until the day comes that the Chiefs get a franchise QB.

Lots of problems need fixin' for this scrappy 7-3 team.

The offense has looked bad in games in which we run the ball well

He likely does at times, but when dealing with an eccentric author, you don't just tear up page after page and replace his work. You have to pick a moment here and there to alter.. but take it too far, and it's going to create ego friction.
