The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively DONE

The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

According to Rapoport, the Cardinals believe the Chiefs are "closing in" on a deal for Colin Kaepernick's backup. Rapoport also reports the Browns are "said to have some interest." It's clear Sunday's report that a trade was "effectively complete" was bogus, but the Chiefs are very much the leader in the clubhouse. Smith would be a poor fit in Bruce Arians' highly-vertical system.

I actually think we are holding the all the aces against both 49ers and Philly. Both need to get rid of the QBs in the scenario, and I bet Chip Kelly is very tempted to do the swap with the Chiefs to get Geno who fits his O better. The Chiefs are pretty much calling their bluffs and raising on them. Neither team may find a better team to trade the QBs to than to the Chiefs.

i thought Smith was another Matt Cassel. Now I'm hearing he is capable of sticking it to the 9ers twice year.

Zona had a good coach and we had a terrible one. I bet we are better than them with equal coaching.

Also their new HC is about long balls. Reid is West Coast. How is that a good fit for Smith?

Thank you for all these intimate reports about Clark Hunt. You must really be buddies with him.

Brining in Alex for a 4th round pick without extending him I can some what live with. However, it would be with a you better know what the **** you are doing Andy disclaimer. Trading for him and extending him like Cassel would send me over the edge.

Cassell is better than Alex Smith.

Cassell has better carreer stats and Alex Smiths O line is one of the best. He should have better stats than Cassell.

I'm really not very impressed with Geno and i feel like everyone wants him not because he's an amazing player like luck and rg3 was but because he's by default the best qb on the board and there's a CHANCE he'll be a franchise player. To me, that chance doesn't vary much if you go with a tyler wilson or a matt barkley. This draft just does not have that surefire special player FOR NOW. I'm sure reid can develop one with a 2nd round qb pick. Andrew luck and rg3 were head and shoulders above everyone else pre draft. Geno is not that much better if he is better than the top 3 qbs. If we draft a qb in the 2nd or 3rd, who knows, we might find our russell wilson.

Honestly what some people do not seem to get is that Alex Smith + losing Albert + drafting a LT gets us no where farther than we were at the start of 2012....

There is no progress there, its like treading water......

REALLY frustrating.....

But I am going to guess that Reid didn't come here to make safe moves and tread water after going .500 more or less over the last 100 games after going like 60-30 his 1st 90

In my mind theres no way in hell Reid gets A.Smith unless its CHEAP (without the 8.5 million salary) and for a 4-5th rounder AND he gits a guy he loves n the draft for the future

You could literally input just about any position in besides QB in your drivel, and the point would be the same. Joeckel is not that much better if he is better than the top three tackles, etc.

THat's why you take the QB.
