I mean, it was a marathon getting here, and I definitely realize Ned can't shorten 162 games so that his starters are only going 5 or 6 IP
but once we got past that WC game ... Ned started doing things I didn't realize he even realized existed... and he knows what he has He has 3 lockdown guys and 2 more than capable guys and these starters know that, "ok I need to go 5, and maybe 6...and I don't need to save a thing because all I've got to do is make sure we're up by 1, or tied, or at least not down by more than 1 or 2"... and it makes us incredibly potent because as long as we're tied after 6 we literally have two weapons that NOBODY ELSE SEEMS TO HAVE on the bench that turns a walk or a single into a double or triple (Gore/Dyson) and it just puts amazing pressure on the opposition ... and it makes it a lot easier as a hitter when one of those guys is on base because it forces them to throw fastballs early in the count and it's so easy for us to manufacture runs that way and our outfield defense just demoralizes opponents...especially when it's Gordon/Dyson/Cain Cain made a ton of plays down the right field line that just looked flat out routine...but were plays 80% of big league right fielders simply would never make. We do all of the little things amazingly well and this team is one middle of the lineup bat away from being the absolute blue print to winning in the postseason |

Fun Fact: the players from the two teams will receive 60% of the profit for games 1 through 4 to split between them in any way they want (36% for the players of the winning team, 24% for the players of the losing team), but nothing for games 5 through 7.
MLB does not want the players to have any financial incentive whatsoever to not go for a sweep. Profit for any games beyond game 4 is split between MLB and the two clubs.

Interesting stat on Grantland: the size d the strike zone since 2008 has risen almost 10% to 480 cm squared (I think that's the number). That put the premium making contact since strikeouts went way up and power went the opposite way.
I am unsure if DM actually anticipated all these trends or simply rode the wave. Of course, I don't care either way. |

that's absolutely huge for guys like Cain, Dyson, and Gore. Like, huge. I think I read somewhere that the postseason split for players was over $300K or something?

I assume that, if you're on the 40 man roster (and not at the MLB level) you're still making near league minimum, right? Is that the perk of being on the 40 man roster?

Unless you have a MLB contract for some reason, only players on the active roster get the minimum. September callups do earn the minimum for the month they are up.

The playoff bonus is a really huge deal for someone like Gore, especially considering that there's no guarantee he'll actually make it. He needs to save that money.
