SNL 40

Anyone else excited to see this tonight? I've heard some rumors that pretty much every cast member ever that is alive is making an appearance at some point tonight

Nope. I just watched chunks of it on YouTube. She did all right. Nice rendition of the song.

I thought Eddie Murphy would be in a sketch...horribly disappointed that he wasnt. Was hoping to see Night at the Roxbury guys w/ Jim Carrey...Although Carrey was hilarious as Matthew McConaughey (sp?). Loved Norm MacDonald coming back as Burt Reynolds

I think Miley could have a real career if she drops all the attention whoring and pop music style. She killed that rendition and I could really get into her voice with a more folk rock or country sound.

I also think that while SNL isn't wall to wall gut busting funny, I don't buy that it ever was 100% funny all the time. The nature of the show being live is going to lead to hit and miss on the comedy. Now, some casts have been superior to others, and that may have effected the quality.

They still have some strong cast members but all the strong ones are female now. There really aren't many really good male cast members right now. I really like Cecily Strong, and Kate McKinnon.

All in all I still think the show is funny, just not as consistent as it was back in the day.

Finally caught up to it on the DVR, and I'd give it a B+. It wasn't top notch SNL material or anything, but that wasn't the point. It was a chance to look back and remember moreso than it was an attempt at creating a truly epic performance. Sure, a lot of them are past their primes at this point, but that doesn't take away from the incredible influence the show has had on our culture for the majority of most of our lives.

This is the second half of the special on Hulu. Miley Cyrus starts when the video has about 47 minutes left in it:

Celebrity Jeopardy might be the only recurring sketch that kills every time.

Spit out my soda with 'I wrote your name in the snow, of course it was your mother's handwriting.'

That's quality yesterday, now, and always.

Honestly, the hardest I think I laughed in the whole thing was Jerry asking Larry if he was going to the party.

The look of disgust and vehement NO! was pure Larry.

I'll take Whore Ads for $200.

By the end of the skit my wife and I were laughing so hard we couldn't see straight.

Anyone see those videos of the after party with Paul McCartney, Prince, Taylor Swift, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi and Jimmy Fallon on stage playing together?
