Lets talk when this has happened 37 times. I doubt very seriously Russell will have only 3 wins to show for. |

If Wilson is not a high top 10 QB at some point in his career, I will eat my hat. I'm talking after Manning, Brady and Brees are retired. But at some point. I see Rodgers, Luck, Wilson and Kaepernick as all solid high top 10 guys for the next decade or so IMHO. Maybe Ryan sneaks in there too. Maybe Dalton. MAYBE. Remember, I'm talking no Brady, Brees or Peyton. I love Kaepernick for the ceiling I believe he has as long as he is being coached up by Jim Harbaugh, and about the only young QB I would consider trading him for straight up would be Andrew Luck who I know will hit his considerable ceiling, but if the 49ers had missed out on Kaepernick and drafted Russell Wilson, I would be well pleased. Would I prefer Wilson over Kap, no. Not at all. I really think Kap will be an elite NFL QB when all is said and done and he is fully developed to his considerable ceiling. But I would not feel like I was settling with Wilson the way I would with even Dalton or RGIII. RGIII had elite potential, but he has a terrible owner, and going over his head coaches head to bend the ear of the owner, is going to be RGIII's doom. He has elite potential but it look like he will never be developed up to it and will fall far short, like Michael Vick (not that I thought Vick had elite potential).

But I dont agree with the "killer instinct" thing at all. At least we havent seen it yet. How many times have we seen Russell Wilson will his team to a victory? How many times has he carried his team when other parts of his team is failing? I am seriously asking those questions, because off the top of my head, I think the answer is zero. I agree wholeheartedly that Russell is better than Alex in pretty much every conceivable way.....but they essentially play the same role. They heavily rely on their defense and running games. Even though skills wise, I have Russell as the better player, they are both game managers who the overwhelming majority of the time are simply along for the ride. You dont have to look much further than last year's playoff performances from Wilson to see that. He had a terrible first round game against the Saints....he had a terrible NFCCG against the 49ers......and when the score of the Superbowl was 29-0 Seahawks, Wilson had 90 yards and zero touchdowns. Game managers. |

What I am talking about is the guys who HATE to lose. Like Hacksaw Reynolds sawing the top off his car after a loss, not the "oh, gee, sucks, I just hate this" stuff. I mean, some guys REALLY REALLY hate to lose. Having that attitude doesn't guarantee wins, but it guarantees you will have a competitor who will pull out the stops to do everything he can to win, and then some, tilt the machine if necessary. Those are the guys I want on my team and it is a MUST at QB. A must. |

I give your hatred spewing a pass since we get along on various other subjects
But seriously, these guys need to take this shit to the appropriate thread... its gotten out of hand that every thread about Smith turns into this, especially when it says right in the title "appreciation thread". Go patronize Clays thread designed specifically for slamming everything Smith, thats all I'm saying. |

Ya know I feel like a man without a country.
I like Smith. I think he is a good QB, but if I say as much here I'm told to go "F" myself and if anyone says anything positive about him on a 9er board they get attacked. But my thoughts are that if you look at Sundays game you find: Alex had more passing yards then Manning 255 to 242 add to that 42 yds rushing and you get 297 total yards he accounted for. Time of possession Smith & Co. 36:14 Manning & friends 23:46 3rd down efficiency Smith 68% Manning 37% But,But,But Manning threw for 3 TD's and Smith threw for 0 Manning's TD's were 2yds-4yds -12yds KC's TD's 2yd run-4yd run the only difference was 1-12yd pass Do I think Smith is the greatest QB of all time NO! But I do think he is a whole lot better the a lot of people give him credit for. |
