PFF on our OL

Teething Problems Up Front

After the departure of three key offensive linemen you would excuse the Chiefs’ for being off the pace up front and they certainly struggled in their first extended outing of preseason.

All five starting linemen earned negative grades in pass protection with Eric Fisher (40 snaps, -1.4 overall), Jeff Allen and Zach Fulton (40 snaps, -4.6 overall) surrendering multiple pressures. Conceding the most pressure was new right guard Fulton who let up a pair of hits and a pair of hurries, getting started early as Star Lotulelei drove outside of him for a hurry early in the game.

The bright point, and potential pressure for Fulton’s starting job, came from new signing Jeff Linkenbach (27 snaps, +3.8 overall) who surrendered no pressure with the second team and put in a very strong run-blocking display to offer a modicum of hope.
Bonus:

In spite of registering his first sack of the preseason this was a crash back down to earth for Dee Ford (34 snaps, -4.1 overall), struggling in every phase of the game.

You have to wonder if we've got too much talent (no such thing; I know).

We're all constantly screaming for more targets for Bowe, DAT and Kelce while simultaneously getting pissed off that we're not feeding Charles and Davis.

Good point. They need a close to 50/50 split and you have to remember the backs catch a few of those attempts as well. It's probably not good if the WR's and TE's are getting a shit ton of targets. That means Andy likely shit the bed again with his play calling.

It's pretty obvious that the OL is finally gelling, and they don't want to mess that up by bringing in Stephenson.

I really don't mind drafting a bunch of OL next year since we've got picks coming out of our assholes, but the OL problems are WAAAAYYY the **** overblown by this forum.

Look at tonight's game. You saw the most talented offensive line in the NFL give up 6 sacks against the ****ing Redskins. What does that say about Dallas's excellent offensive line? If any of you have a ****ing brain, it should say nothing. It's still a damn good offensive line with a lot of rich young talent that have the makings to be the best collective OL the league has seen since Vermeil's Chiefs.

Yet KC could have a similar game and what would be said? "OMG ****ING OL SUX DIK!!!"

McGlynn and Fulton suck cock, I get that. Fisher is still ****ing awful on 20% of his snaps that he takes. We should seek to get better talent next year at those positions in some way shape or form. Absolutely. But you have to judge an offensive line by what you see.

Alex Smith has had a lot of clean dropbacks since the Miami game. Jamaal Charles has had a lot of good holes to run through since then as well. As has Knile Davis. This offensive line is producing some good plays in addition to the couple of major drive-killing ****ups they have per game. And not all of those perceived ****ups are entirely their fault-- Alex is a QB who takes sacks sometimes. Some QBs are like that. Some offensive coordinators/OL coaches can't run the right stunts on certain plays against certain teams. That shit happens.

The point I'm trying to make is that once again, PFF doesn't tell the entire story, and for being a collective group of giant turds, our offensive line is playing pretty damn well.

So LEAVE THE CHIEFS OFFENSIVE LINE ALONE!

Reid is holding this guy and the offense back.

This group should have added talent (Kelce was already on the team) and got better and right now they aren't near as explosive as they were in the Colts playoff loss. That's on everybody, players, coaches and personnel dept.
Okay, so Avery is hurt. Why weren't any of these other young WR's ready to step up and fill in?
All the rookie WR's combined have caught 38 TD's so far this season after 8 games! And all of our's including veterans have none! And our brilliant GM couldn't see fit to draft one from the most talented WR class ever! Which was probably this team's biggest need to improve upon from last season. Because, we can squeak into the playoffs but they aren't going to score enough with likes of the big boys in the big games.
A huge staple for alex Smith with Vernon was the streak route. I have no idea why Andy didn't utilize it with kelce

This. It's baffling that Andy Reid can't see what Alex and VD did on those seam routes and say to himself, "well hey.. maybe he should be doing that with Kelce!"

... and to be fair, and who knows if he really has or has not... Alex should be in Andy's Reid about it too.

I'd say 2nd or with one of the 3rd rd picks. To be honest though... it really shouldn't take much to upgrade McGlynn.. the 73rd best OG out of 78.

Could be a late rounder is all that's needed. I would love it if young LDT can step in. KC has 3 OL that are FAs... two of which are the starting C and RT.

Yeah, OL has to be a focal point.. in-house and out.
