I believe unlurking said he saw it in IMAX. The IMAX sound levels are notoriously loud but it's mostly low end stuff (sub bass) and doesn't hurt the ears unless there's an issue with the system. Having said that, we got complaints with "MoS" so ran it at -3 dB, and are doing the same with "Rim". Even IMAX said it was okay to do with "Rim" because of the loud mix. So perhaps the theater he saw it in didn't make any adjustments.

Idk, it was incredibly "hokey" to me. I caught myself yawning a few times throughout. The story and the acting were downright awful.
I did see it in IMAX 3D, and it did seem REALLY loud to me, too.

Just got back from seeing the movie. Lots of fun, nothing deep and brooding (thank God), just a lot of fun.

Good summer flick, I was entertained but my expectations were too high.
Hokey is a good word for most of it. The scene/memory of the little girl running from the monster were pretty damn good though. |

And I think that I could have developed a much better system from the ground up. Port based missile/artillery stations, stand off weapons for the Jagers and swords, swords, swords. The arms would have been sharp to discourage biting and grabbing and there wouldn't be a head (controlled from the chest). Punching would be a last resort while piercing and cutting would be the priority.

imo....it left me much the way Promethius did but to a larger degree. it is visually stunning. but the story.....well there really wasn't one....or not much of one..... Promethius had slightly a better story but it didn't answer shit..... the special effects were really awesome....but every fight scene does not need to be dragged on for 20 frigging minutes! I get it already! sheesh! glad we saw it in 3D...there were some cool hilights there... and I totally agree with whoever said it took him back to his childhood. I remember running home from school during Godzilla week to see the movie of the day. the monsters were so like those old Godzilla villains....only better.

Saw it today and thought it was good but not great. Could have used some far away monster shots, everything is up close and personal...Never did see a good shot of it far away.

It was good. Not gonna win any awards for the acting or plot but it's a perfect summer flick.
The effects were ****ing boss and the designs of the jaegers and kaiju deserve some serious butt-slaps. |

Saw it tonight in 3d, thought it was awesome actually. Not alot of background on the aliens, but IMO, it's tough to really do that outside of what they did because, well it all just has to be thought up from scratch.
I love the idea of multiple dimensions and it's been used in multiple alien movies, so obviously if they're using it in movies, the government knows about it and it's likely a real thing. Being a big SOA fan, liked seeing Jax, and being a IASP fan, Charlie in any movie is a good thing. |

I think any kid 6 or older could see this flick. The only two scenes I can think of that wouldn't be great for all ages would be a fist fight between two pilots and a very short scene where a monster gulps a guy down. No blood or guts or anything. I thought the CGI was outstanding and there appeared to be some over the top acting and cartoony characters similar to what you'd see in a Godzilla/Gamera movie.
