You = colossal ****ing moron.
22 sacks on Cassel in what, 10 games last year?

So it's one of two things, both of which I have been accused of being wrong about..

1. We aren't calling enough quick hitters

or

2. Our offensive line totally sucks at blocking and can't even block on 3-5 step drops

Now considering how hard it is to sack a QB on a 3-step drop, you tell me, which is it?

You idiot.

It's a combination of:

1. Barry Richardson sucks.

2. Cassel sucks at avoiding pressure.

This has been true since his New England days.

To be more accurate, Cassel holds the ball too long. Thus not calling enough quick hitters.

But according to what you just said it's both when you get down to it. We didn't call enough quick passes and our o-line couldn't block.

Thanks for playing, Sportsfan

Good qbs in the NFL welcome the blitz.

You know what happens when teams blitz?

One of our playmakers is one on one with a LB or S.

Decent Qbs' move protection and eat that shit up.

When teams blitz Pete, you can't just have all quick hitter, as teams go press coverage.

To beat the blitz, the qb has to recognize it, find his hot wr, and make the easy throw before the defenders can get to him and the linebacker or safety can get to the hot guy.

Cassel, a 4 year starter, isn't too good at that.

Either

A. He gets a shit ton better

or

B. He doesn't

We called plenty of quick passes.

If you actually paid attention to the game you would know that.

That's assuming the line picks up the blitz or at least slows it down. No QB welcomes a blitz if it is getting to him.

But you bring up a good point about sliding the protection. I never noticed it much with Haley and he never really talked about it. DV use to talk about how they would slide the pocket so Green wasn't in the same spot all the time.

If you're team can't pick up the blitz you have to go to a quick pass. And a "hot wr" is usually a quick pass. I agree Cassel was not good for whatever reason, him, Haley, the system, whatever, of utilizing the hot WR.

I just know I saw a shit-ton of quick outs to a WR that went sideways under Haley. Or throwing to a back 3 yards behind the LoS. Or a drag pattern that was 2 yards deep and 5 yards short of the sticks. We seemed to save those for 3rd and long though.

Throwing the bal 8 yards sideways and 3 yards behind the LoS is not what I had in mind.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
