Darth Maul, IMO, was the most intriguing character, and they chopped his ass in half at the end of Ep. 1.

Only thing I can remember is the Sith deals in absolutes line. That was just a script problem more than anything.

He never should have been killed. he would have been a great three ep villain.

Yup. Go ahead and let him kill Qui Gon, but defeat Obi Wan, who narrowly escapes. Play that up in Ep. 2, and in 3, Anakin should have had to kill him to become apprentice to Palpatine. Could have easily paralleled Luke and Vader's last fight, with the Emperor urging him to give into his hate.

The Clone Wars did its best to remedy that mistake, and did a pretty good job with it for the most part, but your point stands. Maul should have been the big bad under Siddious throughout the prequels.

MI-3 was utterly boring compared to the first, which was directed by Brian DePalma, the fourth which was directed by Brad Bird and of course the latest entry, directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Abrams entry paled in comparison.

LOST was a trainwreck with no ending. It's was supposed to be "purgatory" but when the public figured it out within a few weeks, Abrams, Lindelof and Cuse all said, "No. You'll see", which was a complete lie. He lied about Star Trek: Into Darkness as well, which was just flat out awful.

I also find it very telling that LucasFilm initially stated that Abrams would direct 7-9 but shortly after filming began, that was changed, too. Rian Johnson is writing and directing VIII and Colin Treverrow is doing IX.

The bottom line is that while we all hope it's a great film, there is absolutely no guarantee. Knowing Abrams, the film will be great until the final minutes, when Luke's reveal skews everything.

Regardless, it was still the best of the prequels, IMO. Episode II featured some of the worst acting I've ever witnessed, as well as being possibly the worst edited film (and score) I've ever seen in a supposed "blockbuster".

Episode III had a chance to be cool but Ian McDiarmid was cartoonish and goofy, as was Natalie Portman.

But I'm with most people that say that the prequels should never have been made.

I'd put III above I, but not by much. Little Ani and Jar Jar drag it way down. II is not just a bad Star Wars movie, it's a bad movie.

I really liked MI3, but mainly because of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. But he elevated everything he was ever in.

I like Abrams for the most part. I think he's talented and has some chops. What seems to doom him is he gets locked into his 'mystery box'. I pray he's not doing it again with the Luke thing.

I think I've told this story before but back in 2002, I was working out at my gym and Hayden Christensen walked by and hopped on a treadmill two spots away.

I told a director friend of mine that night that I saw him and he asked "Oh yeah? Was he unconvincing as himself?".

Have to agree 100%. I'm trying to keep my hope in check. The lower my expectation, the more likely I'll be to enjoy it.

Some of the lines he had were horrible, to be fair. Nobody could've acted out his part in II and made it good.
