2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

More along the lines of trading some of those prospects away for real major league pitching.

Again, I don't disagree. See? We aren't so far apart.

Probably just our age difference... I'm assuming. You're probably youngish and maybe have never seen the Royals win and you're pissed about it... which I understand. I'm 43 and lived through the glory years so I have something good to fall back on.

He meant "upstairs in [his] bedroom in Arkansas." Obviously that's not "fan level" because Glass is actually a Cards fan.

Ohh no... I lived through the good years for sure. I even quit liking or caring about baseball for several years after the 94 strike. But the losing has caught up with me and after around 7 years of knowing that the team was filled with and run by guys who didn't give a hoot about winning I just don't have the patience I once did.

I guess im just a realist, and time and other priorities have caught up with me, but like you, i dont have the patience anymore for this awful organization. I understand having an "optimistic" attitude about this team and for sure there are positives i see. But they need to actually "prove something" before they gain my trust again. For now, all i see is the same wash, rinse, repeat of failure for decades now. Doesnt matter how they build, the results are the same.

Just heard the tail end of a Dayton Moore interview on 610. He won't elaborate on Johnny G. much except all the details aren't worked out yet. I am speculating a trade with Getz.

I'm going to quote Eames and "Dare to dream a little bigger."
The return they can get for Getz is somewhat minimal. Perhaps Johnny G is outbound as part of a trade for a starting pitcher. I'm going to get crazy for a second here: Let's say they're packaging Broxton, Johnny G and Jason Adam to someone that needs a closer (Phillies/Dodgers/Rangers/etc). That might be enough to get a pretty decent return (Vance Worley?)

This has gotten me excited though! I can't wait to see what this turns out to result in. We have two potential everyday starting 2B in Getz and Gio and a guy in Colon in the minors who would likely move there at the ML level when the time comes. |

Glass can refute this "selling" crap all he wants. He has to, because the group interested in buying the Royals wants it completely under wraps until a formal agreement has been accepted. I PM'd Al about this almost a month ago and told him what was going on. I have it on good authority that numbers have been exchanged and talks are ongoing. This info comes straight from one of the lawyers (buyer's side) who would be involved in the deal.
Now this whole thing may fall apart, or may have already fallen apart for all I know. But I do know that conversations, including numbers, have been made between the group of buyers and the Glass family. I'm hoping that Glass is just blowing smoke to cover up any deals being worked "underground"
