If you're gonna lay out that kind of money for Cruz, wouldn't you be just as good going after Victor Martinez?

Was reading some of Henry Schulman's stuff on sfgate.com...here's the link for the full blog.
http://blog.sfgate.com/giants/2014/1...the-day-after/ Here are two interesting tidbits: If the lack of available seats on flights from Kansas City to SFO next Thursday are an indication, there will be a lot of blue-clad fans in the seats for Games 3, 4 and 5 at the Cove. Hard to hear that Giants scout Stan Saleski died, at 59, while advancing the Orioles during the ALCS. You don’t know the name, but he, along with guys like Steve Balboni, Keith Champion, Pat Burrell, Brian Johnson and others have had a big hand in the Giants’ postseason success with their advance work. Am I the only person who had no idea that Steve Balboni was working in baseball, for the Giants? That's kind of ironic, isn't it? |

Throw in some escalating contracts (Gordon, Guthrie, Vargas all make more next year) and most of the salary that was cleared is accounted for.

Wow, I covered Keith Champion when he managed Single A Savannah back in 1989-90. Good guy. |

Speaking of big bats, do the Astros have Chris Carter wrapped up for a while, or could the Royals take a shot?

I don't see the Royals bringing in another DH only type once they cut ties with Butler, and especially not a three outcomes player like Carter.

Hard to say what that market will be. It's a shame they didn't trade Crow and Collins for him. Would have been enough. I think you could build something around Christian Binford and maybe a spare reliever and get him. Worth it, IMO. Kennedy is a gritty guy with talent.

anyone else sad our draft pick will suck next year?
yeah, me either. Also, wth happened to Duffy? Haven't they had time to get his "mechanics" worked out? I'd rather see a dominant Duffy out in SF than either Vargas or Guthrie.

You really go overboard with your contract ideas, it's your personality to be extreme. It's possible Cruz gets 4/80 but odds heavily dispute it. He'll be 35, a PED suspension candidate, one dimensional, and worth only 2 WAR most of his career. Teams are moving away from these DH Liriano? 31, doesn't log >160 IP, made $6m last two seasons combined. $10M per suddenly? Nope |

Can Hughes be pried away from the Twins or do they think they can contend in the next 2 years?
