Game of Thrones Thread

Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

I mean, the WW reveal was cool. Sansa once again pushing around Emo Jon was annoying. And seriously, WTF is Brienne going to do, kill the lord of harrenhall and lord protector of the vale because he didn't answer a trap question? My ass. And I'm sorry, that Hodor thing was absolutely dumb as shit - absolutely cringeworthy.

I didn't hate our time in Essos this week, so that's a change. And the topless actress was an absolute smokeshow...though it's hard to make up for a full-screen dong.

Yeah, gonna stick with D+ grade on that one. Pretty shitty, IMO. I know D&D needed to get this thing moving forward, but I feel like the nuance of the source material is clearly gone and D&D are being exposed a bit for clearly not having the creative chops that Martin does.
Career[edit]
In 2003, Weiss and David Benioff, who had been friends since college,[4] were hired to collaborate on a new script of Orson Scott Card's book Ender's Game in consultation with the then-designated director Wolfgang Petersen.[5] It was not used.[6]

In 2006, Weiss said he has a second novel finished that "needs a second draft".[7] That same year, Weiss completed a screenplay for a film adaptation of the video game series Halo, based on a script written by Alex Garland.[8][9] However, director Neill Blomkamp declared the project dead in late 2007.[10]

Weiss also worked on a script for a prequel to I Am Legend.[11] However, in May 2011, director Francis Lawrence stated that he did not think the prequel was ever going to happen.
[12]

Writing career[edit]
While working as a high school English teacher, he wrote the book The 25th Hour, and later adapted it into a screenplay, which was filmed starring Edward Norton and directed by Spike Lee.[1] He then wrote a collection of short stories titled When the Nines Roll Over (And Other Stories) in 2004.

Benioff drafted a screenplay of the mythological epic Troy (2004) for which Warner Bros pictures paid him $2.5 million.[5] He also wrote the script for the psychological thriller Stay (2005), which was directed by Marc Forster and starred Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. His screenplay for The Kite Runner (2007), adapted from the novel of the same name, marked his second collaboration with director Marc Forster. He was hired in 2004 to write the screenplay for the X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and worked on the script for three years.

In 2008, his second novel, City of Thieves was published. He has been[when?] working on an adapted screenplay of the Charles R. Cross biography of Kurt Cobain but as of 2010 the screenplay has not been used.[6] He is also working with D.B. Weiss as executive producer, showrunner and writer on Game of Thrones, HBO's adaptation of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series by George R.R. Martin.

On April 10, 2014, Benioff announced he and D.B. Weiss had taken on their first feature film project to write, produce and direct Dirty White Boys, a novel by Pulitzer prize-winning[7] author Stephen Hunter.[8]

I don't know, they seem to have pretty solid backgrounds.

D&D have their faults. The Sneks and Salsa storylines during Season 5 were disasters. But the Hodor reveal is firmly on George.

Sorter - Benioff is the stronger writer of the pair. Have you read City of Thieves? It's a legitimately fantastic work.

I agree that Benioff has legitimate credentials (have not read COT though). Doesn't explain why Dorne (and most of S5/6) was terrible and Hardhome amazing.

Weiss just seems like a friend who got lucky and is getting to enjoy the ride.

Overall I've felt that Season 6 has been a bounced back from Season 5. It's possible that the fact they're moving the story forward is muddling my perception a bit, but I've pretty much lost faith in George finishing this story since reading Feast.

I think they wanted to use Dorne solely as a conduit to highlight Myrcella's death. But this could have been accomplished if Cersei/Jaime just brought Trystane/Myrcella up to KL at the beginning of Season 5 and had her killed off at the end of the season. This would have consolidated the storylines and given them more time to do Stannis' story justice.

The thing that's stood out to me about this season is the interconnectedness of the storylines. The universe feels consolidated and united. Compared to last year, where everything felt scattered, disconnected and slightly without stakes (a result of losing Tywin - a problem that haunted the books as well imo).

So wow. They're moving shit right on down the road.

The Hodor thing may be dumb but that was well shot, quite moving television.

Sophie Turner breaking out the acting chops. That was an intense nuanced performance that she hadn't given as of yet. And she done grew up and got hot.

I'm interested to know just WTF the new red priestess was talking about when they cut Verys' dong off and chucked it in the fire. Moreover, HTF she knew. Definite WTF.

I hope Jon and Sansa don't die. They're very much following the Ned and Catelyn arcs. **** that.

9:00 pm for me.
In regards to Listo and unlurking: I see it as an attempt by BRC and Daface to prevent things before they occurred. He was potentially on the cusp of a discussion that most of us weren't ready to have. They may have jumped the gun, but I understand it.

If his only attempt was to convey that things are getting interesting coming up and leaving it to our imagination, he didn't do anything wrong. I just see this as a preemptive strike to prevent potential issues from arising.

It's not hard to wrap things in a spoiler tag, but he hasn't leaked anything worthy of a spoiler tag at the moment.

This is my confusion as well. Reading this would leave no room for debate, but did Bran wargs into Hodor from his dream, causing him to realize what was going on with his future self?

I hope they provide more details in the future.

I read someone's theory about "Hold the door" = "Hodor" it just wasn't in this manner. I was pretty impressed

Verys talked about it before, a few seasons ago. When his dong was thrown in the fire, he heard a voice. Something he never forgot, almost more memorable than getting his dick cut off to begin with (with a hot curved blade).

Yes, how did this woman know that. Hence the flabbergasted look on his face. He only told the imp (in TV GOT anyway)

The hodor story was another brilliant but sad story line hook. I liked it, sorta. Because it was powerful.

I agree, too many direwolves are dying too easily, but I also felt that way when drogo saved Dani last season. Yeah he roasted a couple dozen people, but he was so wounded he couldn't take her back to Mareen.

Rob's wolf (was) and ghost have been pretty badass so far. And I hope nameria comes back into the story. But hate (if) shaggy dog died already and how tonight's episode took summer.

I'm kinda hoping hodor isn't dead, something happens and he survives and is "Willis" again with full knowledge of what all he's seen for the last 30 whatever years. And the warging is what caused him to be "hodor" all this time. But it looked pretty bad too.

This episode was a lot like Lost, and it was directed by Lost's most prolific director as well.

Lost spoilers here if you care, but this seems exactly the same way Time Travel works in Game of Thrones.
