I'd be ok with Lew doing it, as well

I don't want it to be a n00b or a non-regular

but someone has to get it done at 12:00 AM to prevent someone like Bruiser from starting it ... who hasn't posted in one of these one time this postseason

but now this just opens up a new can of worms for another crop of people who are gonna be like "well then why didn't he just take 2nd and 3rd then!??!"

so god damnit
Yeah, the counter-argument then is since the double play still mattered in that situation, they still might throw, and the small chance that they throw and then get you out is still far too risky for the sake of 1 run. You usually don't get to indifference until 2 outs down late by a bunch.

Explain to me why not. I don't know shit about baseball. The only reason I am watching it now is because I am hoping the Chiefs get a fire lit under them.
But I was thinking, if your behind , you steal everything you can.

Baseball is just random, man.

There have been statistical analyses done of hit sequencing--the probability that you are going to stack hit after hit. You are no more likely to get a hit after someone else has than if you were up there on your own unless the pitcher is struggling.

That's why things like RISP average for teams are so volatile. The Cardinals made the WS in 2013 based largely upon a completely unsustainable average w/ runners in scoring position. The next year those stats dropped precipitously. Did everyone on the team suddenly become worse at hitting the baseball with a man on second? No, they regressed to the mean.

Similarly, you may hear a broadcaster say, "Pitcher X scattered nine hits tonight." He didn't. People fall victim to the gambler's fallacy far too often in baseball. They assume that players are due when they aren't and that they players are white hot when they really aren't.

If you look at Game 4 that the Cardinals played against Kershaw. The 7th inning went "hit, hit, HR." All three of the runs for the game scored in three batters.

Now, if Kershaw throws those same pitches to those batters but does it to Holliday in the first, Peralta in the 4th, and Adams in the 7th, has he executed his pitches any worse? No. Three hittable pitches got hit.

What was the difference? The sequencing.

A lot of Royals fans don't want to believe it, and a lot of Cardinals fans didn't after last year, but hit sequencing is incredibly important and largely a factor of luck. It sucks that individuals don't have more control over it, but baseball is a weird ****ing game.

and this still doesn't take into account there is a lefty on the mound making it that much more difficult to steal a base since you have to be worried about getting picked off

If the series has a game 5, it's got be Shields on a short leash - much shorter than even tonight, and Duffy at the ready, right?

AND I'M SURE WE'D SUCCESSFULLY STEAL THAT BASE 9 TIMES OUT OF 10. PERHAPS 9.5.

WHY?

BECAUSE BRUCE BOCHY, AND ANYONE WHO HAS EVER FOLLOWED BASEBALL, OR WATCHED BASEBALL, OR KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT BASEBALL...

KNOWS A VERY SIMPLE THING ABOUT BEING DOWN BY 6 RUNS IN THE 8TH INNING

STEALING BASES IS POINTLESS

STEALING 2ND BASE WASN'T SUDDENLY GOING TO TRIGGER AOKI TO GET A BASE HIT

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS EVEN BEING ARGUED RIGHT NOW

HAMAS, AL, LEW AND I HAVE ALL EXPLAINED IN DIFFERENT WAYS WHY IT MAKES NO SENSE...

THIS WHOLE "WE NEEDED A SPARK!" THING IS RIDICULOUS.

WELL THEN RAUL IBANEZ SHOULD'VE CHARGED THE MOUND AND TAKEN A CROBAR TO BUMGARNER'S ANKLE...THAT'S THE KIND OF SPARK THAT COULD'VE CHANGED MOMENTUM AROUND FOR THE SERIES. NOT STEALING 2ND BASE. DOWN 6. IN THE 8TH INNING. WITH 1 OUT.
I'll concede the argument. What's the point. Just think we should have taken the base that was most likely conceded anyway. Royals waived the white flag. No biggie. Streaks end.
