Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

That's what the Chiefs will be if Alex Smith wins a Super Bowl with us. The drunk jackass. They might win the game, and I might be glad they won the game, but that doesn't mean they took a good shot at all.

This will forever be a bad trade regardless of the circumstances.
Congratulations. I nominate this for the most reeruned post of the year.

In essence you're saying you don't give a shit if they win the superbowl as long as they look pretty doing it.

A good trade is one that brings us to the promised land. However, the promised land is not necessarily a championship. If Smith plays well enough to win us a championship, imo, he'll be doing his part. That is how I determine the success of this trade.

You're throwing a hissy because the franchise didn't draft the quarterback you've had a man crush on.

Something I missed: The conditional 2014 third round pick is not based on how well Alex Smith plays, but how many games the*#Chiefs *win.

That's what has to take place. If Reid and Dorsey are that damn confident that's who Alex Smith really is and he pulls it off, I'll give them credit.

Right now I've got those odds at somewhere between my dog spontaneously combusting tomorrow afternoon and me winning the lottery.
Better odds then with Geno at QB.

This is a pretty simple concept. I'm amazed you guys are having trouble understanding this.

Reid and Dorsey paid a very high price for a QB who has only thrown for 17 TDs in his best season. They gave up a 2nd round pick for him, so it looks like at this point, they're not planning on drafting a legit rookie who could take over in one or two seasons. For that matter, it's pretty likely they don't do it next year either. Again, no 2nd round pick.

They're essentially paying a ton for "better than Cassel." Not even that. They're paying a ton for "probably better than Cassel, but don't be surprised if he's not."

I mean, what the **** do they see from Alex Smith's pro career that leads them to believe he's better than that?

And if this guy shocks the world and goes Drew Brees on the NFL, it was all according to plan? No. That's LUCK. Blind, stupid luck.

I'll be delighted if it is blind stupid luck, but that doesn't mean they made a smart business decision.

But you don't live in Kansas City, you don't go to Arrowhead every Sunday when the Chiefs are in town and you don't have the opportunity to go, even if asked.

I can't tell you the number of people that I know in KC that are excited for Reid, Dorsey and Smith.

Most people see Alex Smith as the QB that took the 49ers to the brink of the Super Bowl barely a year ago, and the guy that had the highest QB rating in the league before his concussion.

If you don't think that Chiefs fans are excited about those three guys, you're not in touch with the people of Kansas City.

Furthermore, 99.99% of those people that fill Arrowhead on Sunday couldn't give a flying **** about Geno Smith, let alone know who the **** he is.

Based on your rants for the past six months, I think it's safe to say that you have virtually no objectivity, whatsoever.

Further, the compensation has not been confirmed.

Hey guys, I just started my own business. Customers will set up appointments with me where I'll repeatedly kick them in the balls. I charge $100 per half hour. What do you think of my plan?

Oh, it's a dumb idea?

What if I told you it's actually a rousing success, and now I'm opening up locations all over the country?

THAT WAS A GREAT IDEA, RIGHT?

well I do this a LOT and no one ever listens BUT

the #34 pick really isn't much more valuable than Alex Smith

I think we could have gotten him cheaper which is why I ****ing hate the trade more than anything.

but if you go and look at the 1st 10 picks of the 2nd round...the # of hits really isn't anything to write home about. The entire 2nd round, really.

ChiefsPlanet always overestimates the value of draft picks. It is just what this board does. The top 15 picks are ALWAYS littered with all-pros. Each and every year (other than 2009 lololol)...

after that...the draft really becomes a crapshoot.

It's not my fault people can't wrap their minds around this pretty simple concept. All they're focusing on is, "YOU'LL BE PISSED IF THE CHIEFS WIN A SUPER BOWL?"

I never ****ing said that, but that's what they're choosing to take from it. Whatever.

Im for giving the guy a shot. Reid is the best coach we've had on staff in a long time. He's won in a tough conference consistently for years, so if he thinks he's got something with Smith, Ill give the benefit of the doubt just because I want so much for the Chiefs to be winners again, and Ive seen Quarterbacks that failed initially go on to have great success with other teams.

At least it isnt Cassell again this year. I feel like the Chiefs definately overpaid for Smith, but at least the guy has shown the ability to come up big in the clutch when his team needed him in that playoff game. Cassell has NEVER shown any ability to take over a game. He folded like an origami champ in the Ravens playoff game.

I hate to say it, because Id love to see this team draft its own QB and start fresh, but to take a QB at number 1 just to be taking a QB isnt the smart move.

Whoever they do select at number one though better be worth it. If they take another position, and the guy busts out while one of these QB's ends up being good, Reid and Dorsey will be out the door faster than they got in.
