It's been a long time coming. Adiós.

It's time for me to bow out. It's been almost 10 years, and I'm tired.

Tired of the false narratives. Tired of people arguing the poster instead of the post. Tired of discussing football with people who favor excuses over evidence. Tired of wasting time talking about an organization that hasn't won a playoff game in the lifetime of a college senior. Tired of watching other great posters leaving entirely or posting less, weakening the Football IQ this place was known for 5-10 years ago.

I know posting a thread instead of just walking away will open the door for many to take their cheap shots - we all know who they are - and if you don't, just wait. They'll show themselves. Those of you that know me privately know this has been building for a long time.

With all that said, I'll say what I've always said: This team has talent, but will continually fall short as long as they keep thinking you can win in the postseason consistently with average QB play. You don't put enough pressure on the opposing defense, and it puts too much pressure on your defense - if they don't have a near-perfect day, you lose.

Peters and Conley were great picks and should make an impact in the years to come. Should be fun to watch. (What? According to some, I NEVER say anything positive - just another false narrative) While I doubt he'll get his shot, I'd like to see if Murray can be that franchise guy, or if he fell for reasons other than what people here assume - namely, his height and injury history. Hopefully they get Houston signed long-term, because if they don't they are in deep, deep shit. The defense tends to carry this team, and Houston is the most important cog in said defense.

I've made a lot of great friends here that are still friends to this day, and will continue to be. This place was awesome when it was more community based - when there would be gatherings, tailgates, etc. Now, it's littered with trolls that take advantage of the anonymity of the internet and would never show their face in public. That attitude has weakened this place considerably, IMHO.

For those of you I call a friend, we'll be in touch. If anyone that isn't already a friend privately or on Facebook/Twitter wants to continue to keep in touch, I'll keep my PM's open for a week or so.

Thanks, Kyle. It was fun for a while. Queue the "well, bye/sour grapes" posts in 3...2...1.

I absolutely agree but I don't think that truly happened until 2011.

I railed against the hiring of Pioli and Haley and absolutely hated their first draft, and people were like "WTF? Give it time. He's not the Executive of the Year for nothing, Bro!".

The real pessimism started in 2011, with the loss of Berry and Charles, the firing of Haley (the firing was justified and the right decision, IMO, although many against it) and the quick hiring of Crennel. And of course, we're all familiar with Eric's efforts, which grew into Save Our Chiefs, which ultimately led to the firing of Pioli's regime and the hiring of Dorsey and Reid.

Now, there's far too much impatience, especially for a team with two consecutive winning seasons, and a young roster, in which we've seen growth over the past two seasons, due to coaching. This franchise is finally headed in the right direction for the first time since 1989 but it seems that too many people "hate" them so much for the subpar seasons of yesteryear that they'll stop at nothing to remind everyone, ad nauseam, how bad they were in the past, as if that has any relevance to the present.

Yeah, but that's not how it goes. Any optimism is characterized as stupid, even cautious optimism when it's warranted.

This isn't a team that goes 4-12 every year, it often has winning records and sometimes makes playoff appearances. Sure, everyone wants more, but people acting like the team makes 0% of their decisions correctly is dumb.

And there is another section of people who will scream from the rooftops about how this season is going to be different and you aren't a fan if you can't see that. Guys like RunKC and staylor26 who consistently bash people because they question about if a player can do something or not (i.e. Chris Conley is the steal of the draft! Go put him on Alabama's offense and he would have caught 26 TDs!!!). For every pessimist who clouds the pool......there's another optimist doing the same ****ing thing.

So, your realistic expectation was to go from 2-14 to a Super Bowl in 2 years?

This team is gonna win a playoff game this year.

I just ignore them, seriously, by skimming over their posts or by using the Ignore function. Inmem was an insufferable prick that I had on ignore for months, so it wasn't even until a thread was started that I realized he had wore out his welcome, not just with me, but with everyone.

The bottom line is somewhere in the middle for me: There's a really good chance this could be an epic season and yet, there's a really good chance that it could be another somewhat disappointing season.

But from my POV, the glass is more than half full regarding my expectations for 2015 and beyond under Dorsey & Reid, regardless of the current QB, which seems to be where all the fuss is concentrated.

This logic pisses me off and it's not just because you're the one espousing it; it's a common as dirt narrative.. and I already know how you're going to counter this so go ahead and flame a-****ing-way:

Your realistic expectation was to go from 10-6 to a Super Bowl in four years?

Patience would be easier to have if they were breaking in a young quarterback. But you go out and trade for "franchise QB" who was 28/29, that's a win ****ing now move. So you better win and win big. Especially with a roster that was talented to begin with, just needed coaching which Reid provided.

and then there's me... A guy who understands that the level of optimism or pessimism has absolutely no bearing on jack shit.

We haven't even had a full pad practice let alone play a game. The crowing about what we'll do this season is more about the need for someone to inflate their obviously depleted ego.

Exactly.

A huge portion of CP thinks this is just "another time going to the same movie expecting it to end differently" and IMO nothing could be further from the truth.
