Let's talk about the Jaguars

No rest for the weary. The train keeps rolling on.

This is going to be a huge test, but at least its at home.

How does this one play out?

1.) I guess I really don't understand what he is getting at. Ok, so Mahomes excels when extending plays... so you need to keep him in the pocket. Is there a way of effectively and consistently maintaining an improv-saavy, awesome scrambler like Mahomes within the confines of it? I mean, he will just scramble out if they try to do that...right? Or is he actually saying that keeping him in a clean pocket is safer than having him outside the pocket running for his life because he's more effective when he is scrambling? Because from what I've noticed, Patrick isn't exactly ineffective....at all....when throwing from the pocket. Yeah, keeping him from scrambling and making plays will be nice, for it will ensure that you don't put yourself on the highlight reel...but Mahomes can operate from the freaking pocket.

2.) Thank GOD we have Tony Romo as one of the broadcasters. I really, really like that guy. He's not obnoxious. He is cool to listen to and his insight of the game while it's unraveling is probably the best I've heard. I just love it when he is able to call the play before it happens. It's like a second sense to him. Watched his "A Football Life" the other day... dude is freaking cool. I can't wait to hear what he has to say about Mahomes.

You are a wise football mind, IMO...and I'm glad you posted this/feel this way, for I was thinking the same thing...so I'm glad I was right about it.

They want to keep him in the pocket because if he's scrambling out of the pocket then their CBs have to run with the WRs throughout the entire play. Keep him in the pocket and eventually your defensive line will get to him.

I don't think I've felt this way about a Chiefs game since the "no punt" game... aka the last time that I felt the Chiefs were playing for the Super Bowl AND stood a chance at reaching and winning one. I have had moments this week where I have felt so nervous that I almost feel queasy. AND I LOVE IT!!!! THE APATHY IS ****ING GONE, GONE, GONE!!!!

But God, this game... All this hype these past 4 weeks about Mahomes, Ramsey running his mouth about everyone this year (although he was vocally impressed with Mahomes's preseason bomb), the fact that I truly believe this D is the most legit that he will encounter in the NFL....if we get over THIS hurdle, people can shut the **** up and just accept that Mahomes, well.. THE CHIEFS are for real.

For ****'s sake, I don't want to feel like Carrie after she got the pig's blood spilled on her. Haven't been this emotionally invested in a game in over a decade.

I think through his 5 starts Mahomes has illustrated he takes what the D gives him and does whatever he needs to to succeed. I don't think it is one thing more than the other, pocket VS scramble, it is whatever it takes to get it done.

Him being in the pocket would be more of a concern to defend to me. You give him time and his ability to make reads with this offense usually would mean somebody will be open sometime, and it's a given he can get it to them anywhere. My only concern is him getting hurt obviously, and that would be either way.

Makes sense....

And I guess my initial thought is... they can keep him in the pocket all they want to, the dude's just gonna continue to scramble out before the DL gets to him, just like he did vs. Dungver.

I don't see them being successful at carrying out a D plan like this...

Believe it or not, the Kansas Jayhawks actually gave Mahomes a lot of trouble by using a containment strategy with their pass rushers to keep him in the pocket. He had an awful game in 2015. In 2016 he lit them up for a quarter but began struggling as the game went along. Same containment strategy in both games.

I like to listen to Tony, he comes off unbiased and gives you a QB's version of what is going on.

The reason that the Jags defense worries me is because they have the defensive line that can get pressure without having to rush anyone. The LBs and DEs can play contain while the DTs are getting pressure up the middle.

I have a feeling that Erving is going to look like dog shit in this game.

I have no worries. Nothing but faith.

And if the Chiefs lose? Still don't care. We have a franchise QB. 1 regular season game is meaningless now.

It's not like the Alex Smith days where 1 game could be an indication of things to come. Nah. Now 1 game means 1 game.

I've had this pegged as a loss since the offseason.....so I'm not worried if they lose. I think we ****ing light up the Patriots though.

I think it’s a very meaningful game for Mahomes’ development. This will be the best defense he has ever played in his life. He will learn a heck of a lot from this game and it can help him down the road in playoff games against other elite defenses.

God I hope Sammy is healthy and ready to knock some heads Sunday. He really opened shit up, for it's a bitch having to cover Hill, Kelce and Watkins simultaneously and if they want to keep him in the pocket to do so, so be it... he will find one of them...or Sherman....or Harris...or Hunt...or Conley....or Robinson....

I think having Sammy in there makes a huge difference... yeah, you have to account for Hill and Kelce, but ****...you can't just neglect someone as talented as Sammy Watkins...a dude who was considered the "must have" WR prospect in his respective 2014 draft class...a class that consisted of:

#4 overall pick: Sammy Watkins
#7 Mike Evans
#12 ODB
#20 Brandon Cooks
#28 Kelvin Benjamin
#53 Davante Adams
#61 Allen Robinson
#91 John Brown
#90 Donte Moncrief
#118 Martavis Bryant

I mean, and there didn't really seem to be much debate as to which WR was going to be selected first. It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Sammy was the best WR and would be the first one off the board...despite some huge ODB fans pre-draft. This guy was assessed to be the best WR in that class and very well could have that reputation now if he had guys other than EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor and rookie Goff throwing to him...maybe we consistently see that from him this year.

The dude has to be freaking accounted for... he's not freaking Quincey Enunwa, Chris Hogan, Corey Campbell, Josh Doctson or someone completely underwhelming like those guys, for ****'s sake. He'd be a WR1 most everywhere else. With Ramsey likely battling Reek the majority of the game, having Sammy in there and torching inferior talent like AJ Bouye and Barry Church or whoever they put on him will be key. Could be a big game for him. And Patrick will find him.

Good God this offense was crafted perfectly when it comes to the skill positions.

(sidenote: the first two RB's selected in that 2014 draft were Bishop Sankey and Jeremy Hill )
