Cassel had his issues but he was a decent intermediate passer in 2010. Alex has not reached that level of game manager yet.

Don't see an issue with Bowe. He'll get his in due time. Last game Titans were playing man and he still got it a few times and got one that was a break away that was called out of bounds. Bogus call IMO.

Before I panic about Alex Smith's 6.5 YPA, I'd like to see a little bit better pass-blocking. YPAs is the best overall measure of a team's ability to move the ball through the air, but it is function of more than the QB. Brady is usually near the top; this year he is below Alex Smith.

I really could care less about Smith's YPA. One of the most overrated stats in the book, because it assumes there's only one way to play offense. With the type of game we're playing, what we have to see is better 3rd down efficiency. He's been up and down. Against Tennessee, he was terrible early on.

Teams with good offenses have high YPAs. There is some luck involved on 3rd down conversions.

I think our passing attack will improve as the season goes on. I really don't think the problem is Smith or Bowe, but a new offensive blocking scheme and a new offensive system.

To win in the playoffs, you generally need an above average defense and an above average offense. Seems we have a dominant defense, in which case, the offense only needs to be average. It's not there yet, but I think it will be once the O-line gets on the same page. I'm an offense homer, but I must say I'm really enjoying the 5-0 start, and am not really worried about Alex Smith at all yet.

I agree and disagree. It depends on what you mean by a "good offense." If an offense chucks the ball 3 times and repeatedly throws downfield, they're going to have a better YPA, more PPG, and more passing yards. Not enough credit goes to an efficient offense. I completely disagree that 3rd down efficiency is a crapshoot. Teams with better 3rd down efficiency set up manageable third down situations and a QB that knows how to convert.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I agree with SNR's analysis that nothing's wrong with Bowe, and that Smith is just Smith.

Like SNR said, they will have to meet in the middle. Bowe will have to run more routes that are friendly to Smith's game.

This thread is hilarious. Who gives a flying **** about Bowe's numbers?

Bowe was a 1,000 yard receiver when the TEAM had records of 4-12, 2-14, 4-12, 10-6, 7-9 and 2-14: ONE winning season in SIX. Four unbearable and embarrassing seasons.

Yet, the Chiefs are a legit 5-0 and counting, led by some of the best offensive minds in the NFL in Reid, Childress and Ault, yet Bowe is on pace for 750 yards?

WHO ****ING CARES?

This isn't fantasy football. If Bowe isn't running perfect routes or getting enough separation to make the QB throw to him or the head coach and OC design plays for him, **** him.

It's not the Kansas City Bowe's.

I do man! I want the Chiefs to lose every game so I can hype up a QB that will fall in the draft!

Come on, man. I like Alex and I'm a Bowe fan, but you have to admit Alex has some issues throwing to Bowe. Cassel could find him. Bowe is good about fighting for the ball. Alex just needs to trust him.

I really don't care. Seriously.

This team has far more offensive issues than Dwayne Bowe.

I also find it hilarious that everyone nationally is saying the same thing that local fans have been saying for years - lazy, uninterested, drops passes, poor routes, etc. - THEN, people run to his defense.

It would be nice if Bowe was more productive. But it would also be nice if Fisher, Allen, Hudson and Asamoah would play better and Fasano and Kelce were actually on the field and SOMEONE would step up and claim the slot role.

Dwayne Bowe is the least of my concerns.
