Lets say that the PAC 12 and Big 10 are going to be a pain in the ass and say "we want top 4 champions, period, our way or the highway". This new game allows the SEC to say "you know what, screw all yall, we're not having a playoff. Lets do plus-one" The SEC/Big 12 would obviously prefer top-4. They will NOT agree to top-4-champs, no way, nohow, not gonna happen. They might compromise at 2+2 or 3+1, and this game allows that compromise to happen by showing the Big 10 that the SEC/Big 12 has a plan B. Bottom line, the SEC/Big 12 wants the #2 team in the country to be in the playoffs, period, even if #1 is their conference's champ. They also don't want a crappy conference champ in the playoffs, period. They'd like #3 and #4 to be in there too, but it is NOT acceptable to have #2 get left out, or have a crap conference champ be in, and the top-4-champ model could allow that to happen.

and if they agree to 2+2 or 3+1, then my post above is still, very, relevant.
There's a very good chance every year that some conference will be so crappy that their champ doesn't get in (assuming a top-6 threshold, or something similar), and if you want your conference to steal that extra spot, then winning non-con games are very important.

Since an evening without even a twitter is not complete, even if there's no real news, here's one.

Not only is every single media member, alum, and admin been shown to be nothing but a turncoat...now their hopes of a crumbling Big 12 have gone up in smoke. With the prospects of the Big 12 roping in the likes of FSU and Notre Dame we're talking Norfolk State territory here. And it's showing. |

I was not gung-ho for the SEC move when it happened, but there is no regret.

Thats... like the very last response I would have ever expected. But maybe I should have expected some weird shot at MU from Wicked Dude, Missouri is just some random, irrelevant, pretty decent but nothing special, team from the SEC now. They are like Arkansas. I know who Arkansas is, I know that sometimes they suck, sometimes they are good, they never (in the modern era) win championships, and they have a tradition I could respect if I cared to learn about it. Its just Mizzou, let it go, man.

There you go. K-State is the only rival that Kansas really has now.
Mizzou is irrelevant. I mean, sure they are an AAU school, one should be proud to have a son, daughter, or close relative earn an advanced degree from that institution, its a good place for academics. they aren't worthless, but MU gives me no reason, AT ALL, to give a good God damn whether they athletically do well or blow goat ass. To me, Missouri is like Arkansas, or Wisconsin, or the Oregon Ducks. They are a mildly interesting, somewhat academically important, not irrelevant, but not particularly, excessively, important, school that is geographically located in Columbia, Missouri. They used to be important to Kansas, but they are no longer relevant in any way at all.

Perhaps the tough decision is divisional alignment and keeping rivalries while balancing out the power between the two divisions. Maybe the tough decision is splitting Texas and OU or if they won't budge you're forced to stay at 10? |
