2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

As much as I wish I was "Book Man," alas, I have not yet been to a game this year. I've sat in the Crown Seats about a half a dozen times. Believe me, each time I was too drunk to read anything but a menu. The view is amazing, and that schmuck reading the book is truly wasting a great seat. In 2007 before they finished the stadium outfield renovations, the view looked like this: Speaking of Mr. Doggity, he bought an old 1950 Dodge panel van that was in a barn in Northwest Arkansas. He's having it rebuilt to pull his BBQ rig for catering. It's going to be way cool when he gets it finished, should be ready to roll out this summer. I'm generally not an over-reactive guy when it comes to firing Baseball Managers, but Ned has got to go. He has handled this Season so poorly, including our opening Day lineup, that the combination of his stupidity during this losing streak has firmed my opinion that he can't be an effective Manager for this Team. In other words, we are just wasting time with Ned leading the troops night in, and night out.
I have no idea who we should hire in his place, but I do know that Ned is not the guy, and nor is he capable of turning this (or any) season around for this sorry ****ing excuse for a Franchise. Sorry Ned, but you're fired. ** Note** I have already ranted about Dayton Moore in the past. I think he's a flaming ****ing idiot for a GM. He should have been emasculated long ago

KC's own gets the call up.
The Kansas City Royals selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Tommy Hottovy from Triple-A Omaha today and optioned right-handed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress to Omaha. With the selection of Hottovy, who is expected to be in uniform tonight (#46) in Cleveland, the Royals 40-man roster stands at 40. In addition, the club returned outfielder Lorenzo Cain from his rehab assignment with Northwest Arkansas (AA). Cain remains on the 15-day D.L. Hottovy, 30, was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in seven relief appearances with the Storm Chasers. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder had allowed three earned runs on eight hits in 10.0 innings, walking five and striking out 17. A Kansas City, Mo., native, Hottovy made his Major League debut for the Boston Red Sox last season, recording no record and a 6.75 ERA (4.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) in eight relief outings. Hottovy graduated from Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Mo., and Wichita State University. Jeffress, 24, combined to toss 1.0 scoreless inning over two relief appearances for the Royals, allowing four hits and walking two. Cain, who has been on the Disabled List since April 13 with a left groin strain, made three rehab starts for the Naturals and was 1-for-9 at the plate. He exited last night’s game and is currently being re-evaluated by the Royals medical staff in Kansas City. |

Because that's how umpires see balls and strikes?

He can't get out of his crouch in case the catcher comes back down for a real pitch.
