dottefan isn't one person, btw - he's a shared account, it's okay though, he's not around, I'm pretty sure they put him down.

Yes it is. After Dottefan got the axe, he came back as Thatguy.

Just a minor update for those who are curious:

BlackBob had registered for a couple accounts here before, but none that had been frequent posters before. There may be a "normal" poster in there somewhere in the past, but it'd take a lot more effort to track that down than I frankly care about. (At any rate, the Thatguy connection was incorrect earlier.)

Initially, he was warned for a fairly minor infraction, but that wasn't really the reason that the mods started watching him. In what may be an unprecedented triangulation, three separate mods decided to 1) put him on universal iggy, 2) put him on miserable users, and 3) ban him entirely without really a ton of discussion. That's an impressive level of irritation. Should we just be banning people for being annoying? It's a slippery slope, for sure, but you have to admit that the threads he participated in were completely void of interesting discussion.

Even so, it probably would have all been temporary, but we shortly after started getting weird threats about letting him back into his account so he could retrieve private messages to press charges against another user. Apparently both of them are from the Coalition and have some tiff going over there. Regardless, we reacted to the messages like we normally do by ignoring them.

When no reply was received, he started threatening to file a police report against the Planet itself. In case any of you are wondering how you might be able to find yourself on the permanent persona non grata list, that's a good place to start.

Anyway, I've un-ignored his posts so that threads will start acting normally again, and he's officially banned. If he can stop being such a douche, we might let him back at some point, but it's not looking good for him at the moment.

When it comes down to it, this is probably just a "for the good of the Planet" thing. Probably wouldn't fly last year, but now that we've got enough variety amongst the mods to make sure we're not overreacting, I think it's the way to go.

And now back to your regularly-scheduled programming...
