Carjacking at 95th & Monrovia with baby in car ends safely

So, a car was stolen\jacked at a Bank of America at 95th & Monrovia tonight with a 5 month old baby in the back. The car and baby were found at 79th & Wornall and the baby is safe.

This ended well but it happens too often. This is the perfect case for CCW, imo. Apparently one of the passengers was hit in the leg with a bat. It is unclear if the person was trying to save the child or not.

Having said that, what would you do if someone tried to take your car with your child in the back seat? It's a very scary thought but these days it seems to be one we must confront on a daily basis.

So trying to steal a TV off the wall, then get it down 40 steps and over multiple gates would be a hassle.

There are much easier targets.
You know this for sure, how? Maybe they don't want your TV? Maybe they want jewelery and cash, which is usually in bedrooms.

That pistol feels a whole lot different when you are pumped with adrenaline than it does otherwise. Without training specifically under those circumstances, it is reckless to use them in those circumstances. All you have to do is use google to support that. How much defensive shooting training do you have pete?

Yeah, it was a great place..I mean how can you call it a bad neighborhood when the 7-11 that is less than 100 ft from the Police Station gets robbed every other day?

I keep a handgun in a quick safe in my bedroom. Had to put up the shotgun because of the kiddo until I re-configure something so I can have it in the room as well.

That wasn't a neighborhood that you said you grew up in. You worked in that neighborhood.

Tell me again how you grew up in a "sketchy" area.

It's 30 stairs to my main living area, 50 stairs to the top floor. The stairs aren't a straight shot, they zigzag and the walkways are narrow. The staircase to the 4th floor is even more narrow. The bedroom furniture is solid oak and would need to be disassembled to fit through the doorway and would be really difficult to get down the stairs intact. The kids have IKEA beds and mattresses so they have zero value.

I have child security gates on each and every staircase. If someone broke in during the night, not only would it be dark, there are many obstacles. Carrying a 65" LCD TV down 30 stairs that zigzag, in the dark, while a house alarm is sounding wouldn't be easy for anyone.

As for cash, I never carry it, neither does my wife. Any expensive jewelry is in a safe. I suppose if they could find the safe, they could unplug it from the wall and take it but with two closets loaded with all of my wife's clothes (many of which are on the floor), good luck finding it.

Plus, it's heavy as hell. Carrying it down 50 stairs, in the dark, would suck.

Both sides of the argument are correct.

For a lot of people, carrying a gun is strictly fear-based. I feel sorry for them since it would suck to live in fear, which was probably created by a past occurrence or slight mental illness.

For others, it's is simply a tool that will probably never be taken out of the box, yet causes very little inconvenience to have.
