Think this is one of the games that Sean Smith struggled because he didn't have recovery speed, couldn't flip his hips and run or make quick moves to the ball.
It might take some time, but Russell has those characteristics to at least stay with Watkins stride for stride.

Thanks for directly making my point that we will not miss Sean Smith and will be pleasantly surprised by our young 2ndary. Smith was just waaaaaay overrated IMO.

Of course he was overrated. It's the Chiefsplanet Way.

Overrate a B player and make him an A+ player and underrate a B player and make him a D.

The Chiefs didn't lose to Denver and Cincinnati due to Sean Smith's suspension any more than they lost to Chicago and Minnesota because Sean Smith was on the roster.

The offense was a disaster until Jamaal Charles was injured, plain and simple. Once Reid no longer relied on Charles as the primary playmaker, the ball was spread around and other talented players on the roster were given an opportunity to shine.

Fleming and Cooper are the reasons we lost games early, not Smith's suspension. Dorsey attacked the biggest issue that this regime has had since they were hired: CB depth.

As for Smith, I think you'll do well in Oakland simply because of the same circumstances that we provided them here. An elite pass rush will make any CB look a lot better than they really are.

Bullshit. This is complete and utter bullshit.

The Chiefs were up a TD with 30 seconds left against Denver, then lost by seven. There's no ****ing way Sean Smith makes a difference when the Chiefs could only score 17 points at home.

The offense couldn't score a TD in seven tries against the Bengals and settled for field goals each time. Sean Smith isn't coming to the rescue in Cincinnati.

The Chiefs blew their lead against the Bears WITH Sean Smith.

The Chiefs scored TEN points against Minnesota. That's not going to get it done, on the road, against the eventual NFC North winner, with Sean Smith.

Sean Smith has been given WAY too much credit in this forum.

WAY.

Let me clarify: the Chiefs lost the Denver, GB and NE games in large part due to our CB's sucking ass.

That's not an opinion. It's a fact

You're wrong as can be.

JFC, the New England game was lost because Maclin, Houston, West and Ware were unavailable.

Sean Smith was tits in that game. Great hands.

How about Rodgers targeting Cooper and getting 2 TD's on him?

Or Brady targeting Branch in he slot bc he knew he had no ****ing idea how to play slot CB?

I'm sure Dorsey drafted 4 CB's in the first 3 rds and 5 in the last 2 years bc felt comfortable with Fleming and Cooper as depth at CB.

Sure Dane.

You're acting as if Sean Smith was a superman that could prevent every play and that the Chiefs still would have scored enough points to win.

And what happened in the Chicago and Minnesota games?

Your ass must be sore with all the shit talking it's done today.

It's interesting. Dane is right in saying Sean is overrated.. AND... you are right as well that having CBs like Fleming and Cooper on the field was a huge open invitation to all opposing QBs to carve us up as they please.

The Chiefs need the CBs 2-4 to step up and be better than Fleming and Cooper. That's not much to ask for. They also need Sutton... if fearful of these CBs or (injured) missing rush LBs... to not go into pussification mode, and hand the opposition the game by changing up the scheme.
