QB's to watch this year?

Who are the top QB's I need to watch on Saturday with the full understanding there's a <0% chance they'll end up playing football in Kansas City more than once a year?

Agree. Hackenberg has some really impressive tools taken as a whole. And he's looked really good so far this year. I thought he looked pretty good against Ohio State even while taking an absolute beating in that game. He's shown a lot of progression this year while still being mired in a crap system with not much around him.

November 14 recap of the Big Five:

Kevin Hogan, Stanford vs. Oregon
28/37
304 yards
2 TDs
1 Int
11 Rushes
48 Yards
1 TD

- Hogan's numbers were solid and threw the ball well, but he bobbled two snaps in the fourth quarter which resulted in turnovers. (Did come back and threw a TD though.)

Paxton Lynch, Memphis vs. Houston
20/31
278 Yards
2 TDs
1 Int
13 Rushes
43 Yards

Lynch came down to earth a little bit in this anticipated matchup. Strange game as Memphis was up 20-0 with a minute to go in the first half, but Houston's starting QB left the game with an injury and the scouting report got thrown out the window as Houston went on a tear from there. Lynch's first sub-300 game of the season and second loss in a row for the Tigers.

Jared Goff, California vs. Oregon State
26/37
453 Yards
6 TDs
1 Int

- Goff's best game statistically this season. The Cal offense put up huge numbers (school record 760 yards) and Goff was near perfect after a shaky opening drive against the hapless Beavers, who have lost seven straight. Second time that Goff has thrown for six TD's passes in a game.

Christian Hackenberg, Penn State
- Idle. Next plays on Nov. 21 vs. Michigan

Connor Cook, Michigan State vs. Maryland
6/20
77 Yards
0 TDs
1 Int
- Cook suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter and left the game in the second quarter. Plays Ohio State this coming Saturday.

Hapless is being kind. The Beavers' defense is ****ing awful.

I really like Carson Wentz. Nice arm, runs progressions from under center and is surprisingly athletic.

I'd love to have him.

Broke for the rest of the year - broken bone in his wrist that require surgery.

Rehab and good surgery will be important for him, but he could be a cheap mid-round pick in the Draft based on the injury and his DII status. Combine will be big for him.

He also just accepted an invite to play in the Senior Bowl. Looking at the info on his injury, he might actually be able to play in it.

November 21 Recap:

- Tough week for the Big 5 other than Goff (and even his team still lost despite great numbers).

Paxton Lynch, Memphis vs. Temple
25/34
156 Yards
0 TDs
0 Ints

- Lynch hit for 73.5% completion but threw for a season low 156 yards in the Tigers third consectutive loss. The Owls took away the deep part of the field and forced Lynch into a dink and dunk game, which they contained masterfully.

Connor Cook, Michigan State vs. Ohio State
No statistics

- Cook was sidelined with a shoulder injury, but the Spartans pulled off a huge upset in defeating the Buckeyes without their star QB.

Jared Goff, California vs. Stanford
37/54
386 Yards
2 TDs
0 Ints

- Goff threw very well but could not finish off drives in the second half (three field goals in the red zone) and lost to the Stanford Cardinals.

Kevin Hogan, Stanford vs. California
7/12
96 Yards
1 TD
0 Ints

- Compare Hogan's stats versus Goff's and you'd think that the Bears steam rolled the Cardinals. However, Hogan and the Cardinals have the one thing that no other team in college football has - the best player in college football: Christian McCaffery. No shit. Not even close. Dude is an absolute force and freak of nature. 389 All purpose yards (192 of them rushing.) Was absolutely unstoppable. All Hogan had to do was throw a couple of balls to keep the defense somewhat honest and hand off of pass or just go three and out and have the other team kick or punt to McCaffery. Any option resulted in McCaffery putting a foot up the Bears ass all game long. He reminds me of a combination of Jamaal Charles and Wes Welker - speed and unbelievable instincts.

Christian Hackenberg, Penn State vs. Michigan
13/31
137 Yards
1 TD
0 Ints

Hackenberg was again beat to a pulp and still gamed hard until the end. Tough son of a bitch.

Hackenberg didn't have a great statline, but jesus **** that dude has no help. When he had time to get the ball out, players were dropping balls that hit right on the hands.

Doesn't matter what his projected value is, dude needs to leave Penn State. Either go to the NFL or transfer somewhere else.

Not a big believer in Goff, still. Sure Standford is a tough D, but his receivers made plenty of very athletic receptions to help him look better. He did make some nice throws, but not enough to make me think he's the guy I'd spend a top 10 pick on.

I kinda like the Allen kid from arkansas. Don't think he's a franchise guys, but a late round solid backup, spot starter erc.

Nov. 28 Update on the Big Five:

Kevin Hogan, Stanford vs. Notre Dame
17/21
269 Yards
4 TDs
0 Ints

- As has been the case for the entire year, when Hogan is on, he looks like he could be the first pick in the draft. Excellent game where he continually led the Cardinals back against a very good Irish team.

Connor Cook, Michigan State vs. Penn State
19/26
248 Yards
3 TDs
0 Ints

- After sitting out last week, Cook put on an impressive display against the Lions.

Christian Hackenberg, Penn State vs. Michigan State
22/39
257 Yards
2 TDs
2 Ints

- No help and the Lions gave away two turnovers that resulted in TD's for the Spartans. (One an end zone interception thrown by Hackenberg.)

Paxton Lynch, Memphis vs. SMU
9/14
222 Yards
7 TDs
0 Ints

- Ummm...well, you don't have a half of a football game any better than this, where 7 of his 9 completed passes went for touchdowns to seven different receivers. A little bit unbelievable actually. Lynch was pulled at halftime, because, well, what else do you do at that point? You've already completely rewrote the QBR scale max. Pure insanity sauce.

Jared Goff, California vs. Arizona State
30/51
542 Yards
5 TDs
0 Ints

- Monster game for Goff. Led the Bears back from a 21 point deficit for the win. This is the type of game that gets you drafted #1 overall.

Kevin Hogan reminds me an awful lot of Derek Carr. He's got pro style offense knowledge, a really strong arm, good leadership skills, good but not great movement skills and a few small flaws that can be fixed.

He's got that Phillip Rivers type of throwing motion, but that's not a big deal to me.

Right now I think he'd be a great pick for us. Give him a year to learn and let him have at it.

Agree. I wouldn't mind Hogan in the slightest and think he's probably the best fit for this offense.

Would probably take the least amount of time to get him to the NFL level as well.

Hogan does have a horribly slow release, and he hasn't done much more than be a game manager at furd, but the tools are there. I'd be happy to have him..Could be a round 2 or 3 steal. He kind of reminds me of Bortles.

Did anyone watch Cal or Memphis games? How did they look? Were most of the passing yards off BS screen plays or did they hit on any timing routes, or make any impressive plays?

I was really impressed by Goff vs Stanford. He hit on timing routes all night, threw guy open all night wether it was from throwing a ball to where the WR could only get it, or hitting a WR before he even made it out of his break. He pretty much beat Stanfords defense pre snap. Not as good statistically as his Oregon State Game but 10x as impressive. Didn't get to watch any CFB this weekend. More details would be nice.

Watched the Cal game. Best game I've seen from Goff - ever. Hitting bombs, timing routes, etc. The whole field actually. Really took over the game when it was absolutely needed.

Saw the Memphis highlights. As I said, insanity sauce. Didn't throw a bad pass and was just rocketing the ball. Looked like he was on a personal mission after his first subpar game of the season last week.

Another guy to watch in terms of future NFL QB was BYU's Tanner Mangum. Threw for 4 TD's and went over 3,000 yards for the season as a freshman. (First freshman at BYU to ever do that.) Dude has "superstar" written all over him.

Agree on Lynch. He's a beast. I didn't see Goff vs. Stanford, will have to watch that game (it's on DVR at home).

Isn't Mangum a 22-year-old freshman, though? Not sure how much projection is left there.
