The best part of it is that the Royals have awakened a sleeping giant. Expectations. (Forgive me, someone else mentioned this I just don't know who.)
There is a new normal that this season set into motion for Royals baseball, and its competitive. The owner, the GM, the staff, and the players are all in. I believe that. I'm not saying we're going to blow up budgets and go crazy, but we will be competitive moving forward. We can get back here. |

The future of the club is directly tied to our young arms, Ventura-Duffy-Zimmer-Finnegan-Herrera....and perhaps Lamb. If they stay reasonably healthy we can be respectable. If not, well. You saw Aaron Brooks and Liam Hendricks

Not sure why people are still holding on to Zimmer. Guy just had another surgery.
He's no longer a prospect (in my opinion) but more of a prayer at this point.

Oh, he's a big time prospect. I know it's frustrating but he's really young and some guys take time. If he turns into a perpetually-hurt Rich Harden he still carries a lot of value in the time he IS on the mound
Hell, Duffy blew out his elbow and missed an entire season and keeps getting hurt. And he still adds value |

"That decision is not interesting, at all." Simple as that. They just take it as a given that this tough decision that must be pondered over is a good thing and that you have to convince them that the DH is worth giving up this precious strategic moment. No, screw that, don't accept that as a given. This decision their manager has to make is not interesting at all to watch. Once you go there, its all downside for them. You are forced to watch pitchers hit, to preserve something that is itself, actually dumb and boring. If you want, you can also get greedy by attacking their tradition argument by arguing that the AL is closer to being the more pure, traditional form of the game because the creators of the game NEVER intended for one of the starting 9 to be a useless gimp at the plate that must be managed around. It used to be just our starting 9 against theirs, some of our guys can pitch instead of their usual position, and we got a few guys on the bench in case someone is hurt. Thats the way the game used to be, until this warped, twisted form of the game arose through specialization and pitchers who used to be able to hit in high school being outclassed in the pros. If they start making fun of the DH and how the AL is all about dumb sluggers and home runs, don't apologize for it. Hell yes, the AL is about that, because that is how the game is meant to be played. You can steal and bunt a bit too, but its the NL that is the weird, new, bizarre cancerous outgrowth that doesn't look much like the original form of baseball.

One thing that is for damned sure is get Sal to stop thinking pull, pull, hack hack. He doesn't have the plate discipline to be a valuable power hitter. What he is good at is making contact. Get him to go back to his approach the first couple of yrs when he was in the league and just go with the pitch

Our deadline to exercise Butler's huge team option is Saturday. Obviously we are not going to do that.

I dont think he can. I really don't think you can learn plate discipline once you've been in the league for a while. That's what your teen and minor league yrs are for. Ive just seen so few mlb players be able to develop their patience. To some extent i think its just god given. He needs to focus on using all fields more imo

The only two guys I mentioned last month were Santana and Hunter, as they fit obv needs and seem like they'd be ok playing here.
Heyman reports today we may pursue hunter http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2014/10/...cy-butler-aoki Many sites tie us to Ervin http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/10/...es-repeat-2015 |

Torri Hunter makes a lot of sense. Biggest thing is he could help Cain take the next step to superstar.

Hunters defense has really regressed a lot. I wouldn't mind him as a DH but at age 39 you got to wonder how much he has left. He's contemplating retirement as well.

Also Ventura was hanging out at a kids softball game today taking pictures with everyone.
He has moved on from the losing and has focused on next year. |
