Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

Superhero Hype reports that the 93-second first teaser trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" will be released in front of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" next week in both 2D theaters and IMAX 3D screens.

I love the stories of the new batmans, but I wish for the love of god that they didn't do his voice that way and batman didn't look so big and bulky.

I have the trailer. While it's on the front of "HP7B" you 3D-haters will be happy to know that the "TDKR" trailer is in 2D. Meaning the final film will probably be in 2D. (Although that's not a guarantee. We ran 2D trailers for "HP7B" as well.)

I think Nolan has stated that it wont be in 3D? But who knows, WB might overule and make a business decision to a post conversion. IM guessing he films some scenes in true IMAX format like the last one?

I only looked at the trailer while winding it and didn't see any, but it's a very "teasery" trailer so I'm not shocked. Since he used IMAX footage in "TDK" I'm sure he'll do it again.

(It's amazing how cool it looks when they use it. I just saw my "MI4" trailer again and it's so impressive when it jumps to full-screen from the letterbox image.)

Yes. i like the effect. They even did it on the blue ray. It goes from full frame/IMAX during the action scenes to 2:35:1/widscreen during the conversation scenes.

Inception wasn't in 3D either. I don't think this movie will be, and I'm fine with that. Definitely will be awesome in IMAX though.

I've heard he's going to be doing about 2/3 of it in IMAX. Which I believe is about double the scenes he shot in TDK

According to sources, none other than Liam Neeson was on the set of "The Dark Knight Rises" on Monday, shooting a scene as Ra's al Ghul. Right now, I can't confirm if the scene was meant to be a flashback or if it takes place in the current timeline of the films, but Neeson was there, and he was in front of the cameras. By Tuesday night, he was already in New York where he showed up for the premiere of the revamped "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark." I have no idea if he's going to return to London for more "The Dark Knight Rises" shooting or not, but at the very least, we know he's stepped in front of the camera.
