Had he continued to improve, to sign him would not have been more than this.

Doesnt make sense to me, you only sign someone that has performed under expectation like this if its a bargain.

This was not a bargain.

Fish is getting better and LT is premium position that all teams value high. We have RT and LT now locked up for few years with good players. This is great work by Dorsey.

Of course not, lol.

That said, I'm not sad they signed one of their ascending young players before he produced so well that the team would have a tough time resigning him, either.

There were some very valid reasons for Fisher's early struggles.

drafted 1.1 something he didn't really deserve which added crazy pressure

switched position to RT

made him play with shoulder injury his 1st season(sports hernia too at some point iirc) instead of having surgery.

Because of injury he missed most of his 1st training camp

Because of delayed surgery he missed all of his 2nd training camp

moved him back to LT

Then moved him back to RT because Stephenson was pouting and sucked less at LT

Then moved him back to LT

All this happens while a small school player is dealing with crazy pressure of 1.1 and vicious fans who hated taking an OT instead of a QB.

Fisher has dealt with a lot and has weathered it all to because an above average OT with chance to become pro bowl level.

Yep, fans still whining and pouting because he's not a QB.

That is certainly the hope. Given his history, I think they're taking a fairly big risk.

OT's drafted since Tyron Smith in 2011:

Matt Kalil-looks like a bust. No new deal and is in his last year of rookie deal
Riley Reiff-played all over the line
Cordy Glenn-is this guy really better than Fisher?
Luke Joeckel-playing G at camp
Lane Johnson-playing RT
DJ Fluker-playing RT and is average
Greg Robinson-hasn't fared so well
Taylor Lewan-playing RT
Jake Matthews-isn't he average?
Ja Waun James-average?

OL play is really bad in the league. Fisher's play last year made him one of the better OT's and he's still getting better.
