Given that they got Shelby Miller for Heyward... I'd just figure they'd want more than Colon. They seem to be bent on accumulating pitchers. But who knows.

Find somebody to platoon with Dyson and use our resources to get another starting pitcher. That would be better for us than getting Upton IMO.

A lot of those 2nd tier pitchers are gone. I'm a little concerned about who we might pick up now. I'm kind of in the give Davis another shot boat as opposed to just picking up shitty reclamation project.

Starting Dyson a whole year and keeping those guys is more valuable than the 3 wins Upton would bring.

Rasmus does have the reputation, though I think a lot of it has to do with budding heads with the even bigger jerk Tony LaRussa. I think Rasmus would fit in fine with the Royals and Yost is the type of manger to get something out of him.

Unfortunately it's a lot more than that. Rasmus has a father of the year who has gone on radio and openly criticized both the Cardinals and the Blue Jays coaching staffs (while his son was playing for both teams). World's best dad would go on to further insinuate that his son was better off ignoring the advice of Kevin Seitzer.

You'll take another year of Infante (and more after that), and you'll gosh darn like it.

The reality is that even though we have a good reason to believe Infante will return to his pre-2014 form (he was hurt most of 2014, hopefully when he's healthy he'll be the 2B we were expecting), no one else is committed to rolling those dice like we are. He has no trade value, because no one else would want to take on his salary and hope he bounces back.

If he does bounce back as expected (hoped) then he'll suddenly be valuable again, but we wouldn't want to trade him anymore at that point. For better or worse, Infante is ours, there's a reason to believe he'll be better next year, and we're paying him too much not to give him the job.

1 year of Upton for Colon straight-up might be horrifying for fans who are used to accumulating and developing prospects for the future, but at some point its time to cash in the chips, and thats where we are. Colon has value, but he's not going to be a star, and we can't really use him unless Infante breaks his femur.

If you tabulate the expected future WAR Atlanta likely comes out ahead in the long run, but we're paying an additional "we want to win now" premium. Not having to care if you win this year gets you more prospect value in a trade.

This, all of it.

But casual fans (Saul good) are unable to see it this way, they don't understand trades are about value and not equal talent. Value is factored by (1) pay and (2) control. So when David Price or Moss or Shark or whoever gets moved for no-names it always shocks them.

Melky Cabrera is still the Royals‘ top choice to fill their hole in the outfield, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman tweets. If Cabrera can’t be signed, K.C. has such options as Nori Aoki, Colby Rasmus or Alex Rios as fallback options.
