Liked the episode...but how the HELL does Carl keep getting out on his own every week? That was dumb. The writing needs to be stronger.

That's always been the way this zombie world works. It's the way it works in the comics as well. It's what people have been speculating that the doctor said to Rick way back at the end of season 1: "We're all infected."

I figured Shane's death was coming (it's a bit unfortunate, as he carried this show for the bulk of the 2nd season before he went completely off the wall), but having Rick take the step of killing him in cold blood like that was a great way to end that saga.
And they've been suggesting for a while now that everybody comes back after death since the end of season 1, but we finally got real confirmation of that. That's a lot of zombies coming up on that farm...I guess we're in store for a bit of a battle. |

Jon Bernthal talks about the Shane character arc and is pretty candid about Darabont's dismissal. |

I enjoyed how Shane and Rick walked forever through the woods, only to end up in a field about 150 yards from the farmhouse where the farmhouse could see everything on a bright moonlit night. Not quite a secret standoff.

If that's what the CDC guy told Rick, it doesn't make sense that he'd keep it a secret. Not telling the others would just be putting everyone in danger. Someone could die when Rick's not there. Choking, an accident. Hershel's daughter almost killed herself. And if nobody's expecting the dead person to turn, they're screwed. Hershel has a heart attack and dies, Maggie's bawling and goes into the bathroom to wash her face. She comes out and he jumps off the bed and eats her. Thanks, Rick. |

One of the other interesting touches I noticed:
They made Shane make zombie-like noises quite a few times throughout that episode prior to turning. They made him very zombieish before he even died. When he comes in to sort of talk to the kid in the barn, he sounds like a zombie. He also does when he smashes his face into the tree.

I agree about telling the others, though. If the guy said, "We're all infected," it might have taken Rick a while to figure out the implications of that statement, and he might have just been working off of a suspicion when headshotting everyone. He didn't have definitive proof, and he probably didn't want to worry the group needlessly until he figured it out for sure (which is very true to his character).
