We might as well start the conversation.

Aaron Donald got a 3 year extension worth 95m and Jones won’t/shouldn’t accept a penny less.

We can probably get the equivalent of 2 firsts if we trade him.

This. The Tyreek trade only worked out because it turns out Mahomes is what makes the offense dangerous, not any one WR (duh).

Jones is the Mahomes of the defense. Trade him, and the D is ****ed.

Once his contract runs out, he will be 29 years old and will be entering 2024 at age 30 since he was born in July. So essentially whatever ADDED years/$ you give to this guy, you are giving it to a 30 year old Defensive tackle.

So if we are thinking of some massive extension of 4 or 5 years, remember that 4th or 5th year he will be 34 and/or 35.

Right now? Nothing unless he wants his contract redone and is going to be a problem. This is a Feb conversation they will have with him I'm sure but right now he's 3 among DT's in pay. Still good standing for pay with Donald stealing LAR money. We can't give the 30 mil per year Donald got. If he wants that at his age it's not happening here. Bump him to 25 mil for 2 years if we win the SB we should go higher.

Yes, but it would've been much worse without Jones.

Of course Mahomes is 1 of 1, but the defense will not be improved by trading its best player for 2 or 3 ho-hum rotational guys.

I agree with that, for sure. I'm just more and more coming to be a believer in stars on offense and a constant rotation of good to very good players on defense.

But also, if we can afford the contract, terrific. Trading Jones would be even less popular than trading Tyreek, but it's absolutely something that must be considered.

We're also trending to where we are going to be a team that pays guys who don't want to set the market, signs older players that wanna win and drafts well and has a lot of young starters, it is what it is.

Jones will be 29. We got the best of Jones. In this hypothetical discussion, if you can trade him for a Reek type haul you do it.

This board went apopletic when Hill (also a potential gold jacket wearer) was sent to the fins. Finished 14-3. I'd be shopping Jones immediately. Especially if the Chiefs achieve the ultimate goal.

Isn’t that what Veach did with Tyreek?

If you trust in Veach’s ability to scout and draft players then you would trade Jones because adding 5-6 players on rookie contracts is financially the way to build a team. You add cheap vets at team friendly deals. Veach has proven he can find talent.
