That was our best shot and we missed it

I know it sounds irrational because it was essentially just year 1 for Mahomes, but this was probably our best ****ing shot and we failed (because of a ****ing offsides penalty). We have two more years of Mahomes on his rookie deal (he’ll get paid before year 5), and I just feel like it’s unlikely that we get the 1st seed with a relatively injury free season again before it’s time to pay up.

Will Mahomes have another 50 TD and 5000 yard season next year? History says probably not. But I don't think the offense is just going to tank after this season. The defense just needs to work on getting closer to ****ing average and we'll be right back there again.

I agree in some ways, to be basically one drive from the Super Bowl and not make it, that's tough. There's zero guarantee we're back in this position next year. You can't account for health, the schedule, etc. Plus as much as people don't want to hear it, it's entirely possible the defense doesn't get any better if Veach doesn't have a great off-season. As Chiefs fans we know all about being unbalanced on one side of the ball and spending resources to fix the other side and it doesn't happen.

That said, we clearly have a coach who can get a team to the playoffs and we have a QB who has clearly demonstrated that no situation is too big for him. We'll be in the mix.

The key to hosting the next AFCCG is finding offensive balance. Reid needs to act like a HC not like an OC overjoyed with his QB.
I doubt this D can be made respectable in a single offseason. The offense has to play more controlled and keep that potential disaster off the field especially if Bob is back.

I really hope you don't believe that. That makes it seem like you think Mahomes has peaked, which he has not.
This was just the FIRST shot, and a great chance, but there will be others.
We won't always have the league's worst D.
Never say never. Dan Marino peaked in 1984 at Mahomes’ current age.

We spent our entire 2018 draft on defense, other than one sixth round pick, and the defense declined. That's worrisome.

Feel like the offense the last 10 games showed realistically who we are as an offense. Less fireworks, more down to earth but still outstanding. The fact that mahomes almost practically singlehandedly beat the patriots in one of his worst performances of the year speaks volumes to this team's ceiling. And Hard to imagine he isn't going to get even better.

The next 15 years are our best shot. Enjoy the ride. I absolutely HATE the people referring to this as a wasted season. It was awesome.

We just had an all-time great season out of our QB on a rookie contract and not even a SB appearance to show for it

How was it not wasted?

Dude you're the guy who goes around and plays Mr. Hindsight about the Alex Gordon contract to everyone who will listen even though people loved the move at the time. If we're sitting here in 5 or 6 years and this team hasn't had a better shot than a 4th quarter lead at home in the AFC CG you're going to be the first one complaining.

A coin flip away from the Superbowl isn’t a wasted season. Someone needs to find that coin and ceremonial destroy it though.
