People asked about league average...I compiled this a few months ago. Alex Smith was 27th in the NFL in yards gained on downfield completions. Fewer completions than CASE KEENUM.

Quote:
Downfield passing (20+)

Ben Roethlisberger 31-81 1,016 13 TD
Kirk Cousins 30-68 1,110 9 TD
Andrew Luck 26-55 887 8 TD
Russell Wilson 26-58 886 6 TD
Matt Ryan 25-52 995 9 TD
Drew Brees 22-50 920 6 TD
Aaron Rodgers 21-72 723 6 TD
Philip Rivers 20-58 763 9 TD
Derek Carr 20-46 710 7 TD
Andy Dalton 19-48 753 3 TD
Marcus Mariota 19-50 540 6 TD
Sam Bradford 18-40 620 4 TD
Matt Stafford 17-48 710 3 TD
Jameis Winston 17-55 516 11 TD
Eli Manning 17-66 576 5 TD
Ryan Tannehill 16-40 640 8 TD
Dak Prescott 16-43 526 6 TD
Tyrod Taylor 16-53 635 6 TD
Cam Newton 16-59 634 9 TD
Tom Brady 15-42 620 5 TD
Joe Flacco 14-57 516 5 TD
Carson Wentz 14-53 441 4 TD
Ryan Fitzpatrick 14-43 431 1 TD
Carson Palmer 12-55 442 4 TD
Trevor Siemian 12-39 451 4 TD
Case Keenum 13-36 498 2 TD
27. Alex Smith 12-40 427 2 TD
Brock Osweiler 10-51 333 4 TD
Blake Bortles 10-58 304 1 TD
Jay Cutler 10-19 350 2 TD
Colin Kaepernick 8-23 255 2 TD
Josh McCown 7-22 238 2 TD
Matt Barkley 7-26 202 2 TD
Cody Kessler 6-19 182 1 TD
Brian Hoyer 5-21 172 1 TD
Blaine Gabbert 2-12 52 1 TD
RGIII 4-17 162
I also looked at intermediate passing. Smith was 28th in intermediate completions, 24th in intermediate completion percentage and 27th in intermediate quarterback rating.

In 2004 Donovan McNabb threw 71 passes over 20 yards.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/split...1753/year/2004

So next time...maybe do a little research.

You are cherry picking exceptions to the rule and ignoring the fact that Smith was at the bottom of the league not ONLY in deep passing but also in intermediate passing.

You know there is no point to even defending him at this point so please stop.

Mahomes will have 101 out of 100 in over 20 yards in his second year

Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers were all in the ****ing conference championship games last year, and all were in the Top 8 for yards on deep throws.

Keep talking out your ass.

****ing look at that list. For the most part, the top of that list is the good QBs and the bottom of that list is the dregs.

We didn't draft a kid with a ****ing howitzer strapped to his right shoulder to "play like Alex."

We're going down the field, jack.

Get ready, assholes.

We aren't going down the field 100+ times with Mahomes. He's going to throw a lot of screens whether you like it or not.

It will seem like a lot of deep passes compared to Alex though.
