FYI, the odds of transmission go up significantly if you have another current STD, like gonorrhea, or active herpes infection, because there are numerous T-cells in the infected region, which provides far more targets for HIV to establish a foothold in the body.

If I may ask, did he get his transfusions many years ago? I remember the issues in the early days of AIDS when they were starting to figure out the blood supply problem. That's not nearly as bad as for-profit blood banks refusing to test for Hep-B antibodies in the blood when it was 88% effective at identifying donors who were HIV-positive because of the cost.

He got a blood transfusion in 1989 after being stabbed multiple times. He died in February of 1991.
