It's been a long time coming. Adiós.

It's time for me to bow out. It's been almost 10 years, and I'm tired.

Tired of the false narratives. Tired of people arguing the poster instead of the post. Tired of discussing football with people who favor excuses over evidence. Tired of wasting time talking about an organization that hasn't won a playoff game in the lifetime of a college senior. Tired of watching other great posters leaving entirely or posting less, weakening the Football IQ this place was known for 5-10 years ago.

I know posting a thread instead of just walking away will open the door for many to take their cheap shots - we all know who they are - and if you don't, just wait. They'll show themselves. Those of you that know me privately know this has been building for a long time.

With all that said, I'll say what I've always said: This team has talent, but will continually fall short as long as they keep thinking you can win in the postseason consistently with average QB play. You don't put enough pressure on the opposing defense, and it puts too much pressure on your defense - if they don't have a near-perfect day, you lose.

Peters and Conley were great picks and should make an impact in the years to come. Should be fun to watch. (What? According to some, I NEVER say anything positive - just another false narrative) While I doubt he'll get his shot, I'd like to see if Murray can be that franchise guy, or if he fell for reasons other than what people here assume - namely, his height and injury history. Hopefully they get Houston signed long-term, because if they don't they are in deep, deep shit. The defense tends to carry this team, and Houston is the most important cog in said defense.

I've made a lot of great friends here that are still friends to this day, and will continue to be. This place was awesome when it was more community based - when there would be gatherings, tailgates, etc. Now, it's littered with trolls that take advantage of the anonymity of the internet and would never show their face in public. That attitude has weakened this place considerably, IMHO.

For those of you I call a friend, we'll be in touch. If anyone that isn't already a friend privately or on Facebook/Twitter wants to continue to keep in touch, I'll keep my PM's open for a week or so.

Thanks, Kyle. It was fun for a while. Queue the "well, bye/sour grapes" posts in 3...2...1.

It's not just winning one playoff game - but building a team the way the Royals have done. I feel like we were on the right path, but pissed away a few good players and then stopped drafting well. A team of also-rans that goes 10-6 and wins one playoff game isn't going to do a lot to shake me out of my Chiefs torpor I feel.

Yet how many people wanted Dayton and Ned fired midseason last year?

Well, bye.

There's really only one difference between saying "I am leaving forever" and saying "Look at me, I'm an attention whore".

The second statement is the honest one.

I just read Billay's "Andy Reid" thread, and it was hilarious. OTWP tried to attack Reid/Dorsey by making statements that were, to put it mildly, factually incorrect. To put it accurately, they were outright lies.

When other posters called him on it, OTWP decided to get all pissy about it and leave.

OTWP, hate to see you bail, but I get it. I frequent here less and less myself. Perhaps it's the off season? As I've gotten older, and as the NFL has gotten greedier, it's been harder and harder to be a passionate fan of the league, let alone the Chiefs. Anyhow, I've always hated the leaving forever threads. It's ok to leave, come back, take a break, whatever, but I hope you don't really bow out permanently. If so, enjoy the season man.

That's disappointing, though like a few others, I do question the narrative a little bit here.

This board hasn't become a 'homer' board. Admittedly the mood is more optimistic than it has been in many MANY years (perhaps ever), but shouldn't that be the case?

For the sake of discussion, let's just briefly set aside the QB position (we'll get back to it, don't worry). Is it a stretch at all to say that this is the most talented team overall that we've seen in 25 years? I can't speak to the old timers, but that's my duration as a fan and to my eyes, this team has more ability at more places than any Chiefs team of my lifetime.

Sure, it has holes, but welcome to a cap league. Every team has holes. I'd like to have an established #2 WR. I'd like to have a steadier OL and Ted Backer. But hey - scarce resources; you take what you can get. And at least we have some high upside plays in those thinner positions.

As to the QB position - I think it was Boss that said it, but if you just cannot enjoy any Chiefs team because we have an average QB, then perhaps he's right - stepping away may be the way to go. Yeah, he's a boring option that does little to elevate his teams but we're 3 years down the road now. If you're still carping about Alex Smith when he's been a solid but unspectacular QB for us, you're not going to be happy so I guess you're better served divesting, at least until the Chiefs make the play at QB that you'd like to see made (and c'mon, with Andy Reid here, I do expect they'll make that play when they opportunity meets motivation).

Chiefsplanet's core constituency isn't any different than it's ever been, IMO. You still have about 25% of the board that's endlessly optimistic and another 25% of the board that's endlessly pessimistic. The 50% in the middle are what control the character of the board. Right now that 50% is pretty happy with where the team is trending. Even people like Dane and me that have generally sided very much on the negative side of the ledger are very excited about the direction of the team. That's not being a homer - that's simply appreciating the efforts of a competent leadership team.

There are still smart posters here (especially now that I'm back for a spell), but CP is actually less of an echo chamber than it was 4 years ago. The membership hasn't changed as much as the outlooks of the members has, and with good cause, IMO.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that someone would leave over what happened there. It was mild and polite compared to most football threads.

I guess there's always that cognative dissonance feeling that happens when you start to realize that the facts don't fit your opinions and it makes you uncomfortable.

It has always been an anti-homer board. The majority opinion here has nearly always been pessimism.

Right, but that's because there's been ample cause for it.

It wasn't populated by 75% pessimistic posters, it's just that the 50% in the middle were given good reason to be down on the team's prospects.

Now the opposite is true. There are good reasons to be excited about the upcoming season and the 50% in the middle are probably 35-15 to the favorable side right now. So when you add in the original 25% eternal optimists, you're looking at a 60/40 lean towards the positive side of the ledger right now.
