Jameis Winston suspended for half vs. Clemson over obscenity incident

Florida State announced Wednesday that starting quarterback Jameis Winston has been suspended for the first half of the No. 1 Seminoles' game vs. Clemson on Saturday for yelling an "offensive and vulgar" phrase in the student union on FSU's campus.
Deadspin collected a number of tweets from Florida State students who said they saw Winston standing on a table Tuesday "screaming" the phrase (one made popular by a series of recent viral hoax videos), which uses graphic sexual language. (Both links use the phrase and other R-rated language.)

"As the university's most visible ambassadors, student-athletes at Florida State are expected to uphold at all times high standards of integrity and behavior that reflect well upon themselves, their families, coaches, teammates, the Department of Athletics and Florida State University. Student-athletes are expected to act in a way that reflects dignity and respect for others," Florida State interim president Dr. Garnett Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a joint statement.

"As a result of his comments yesterday, which were offensive and vulgar, Jameis Winston will undergo internal discipline and will be withheld from competition for the first half of the Clemson game.

"The University and athletics department will have no further comment on the matter."

On a teleconference Wednesday, Jimbo Fisher said his Heisman-winning quarterback's actions were "not a good decision," per Noles247.

"We have to keep learning, keep educating, and continue to make better decisions," Fisher added. "It is something that has to be addressed ... You can't make certain statements that are derogatory, inflammatory."

Fisher indicated he had spoken with Winston about the incident, saying "everything has been addressed and we are getting ready for the game."

Winston's off-the-field actions have been the target of increased scrutiny since the emergence of a December 2012 rape allegation against the redshirt sophomore late last year, one that has led to a current code of conduct investigation by the school. In April, Winston received a legal citation for shoplifting crab legs from a Tallahassee grocry store.

To both of you: Generalizing the actions of the few to an entire university or team is hardly social behavior, rational thinking using any logic.

There's at least 40,00 students who attend there and many more who work there to service that many students. They are all criminals or bad people.

If you talk to the adults at least, in the surrounding community of FSU such as businesses and even a man who heads a neighboring Chamber of Commerce, they are all disappointed in the behavior of Jameis because they feel he's hurt the school. Therefore, they are criminals too.

He's commenting on the laughing during a press conference to talk about a rape case. Jesus Christ, I understand that your daughter attends school at FSU, but that place is a cess pool. Tell her to transfer to a decent school. You know, one you can be proud to be associated with.

It unclear whether Winston will be suspended, but he's been cleared of any charges against him with regard to the 2,000 pieces of autographed items. And while that seems like a lot of memorabilia to sign, Nicklaus thinks otherwise.

"I wonder how many autographs I have out there," Nicklaus said. "Every game I go to I sign, probably 20 or 25 (people) and four or five each. Start adding that up. And he's a lot more available than I am. He's not the only kid with a couple thousand out there. A bunch of those kids have to have a couple thousand."

The night of the Notre Dame game alone it was reported Winston loads of autographs. Who's to say, those beneficiaries of those autographs didn't turn around and sell them for profit. Things are starting to smell like a witch hunt. Man is prone to those.

I just watched it up to that point and was going to go back to it because it was taking too long. But the questions asked were kinda dumb on the DNA too because it alluded to guilt or could be taken that way. He was right that the questions were convoluted. So I choose to comment on that part of the video. But that was the State Attorney speaking who is not FSU.

If it's all a "cesspool" then that means the victim is part of it too, right? You do know that she has a reputation as a cleat chaser right? Guess it's all part of the mix.

No, my daughter is not going to transfer because she's in two nationally ranked programs at FSU and has scholarships paying for most of it. Those who attend love it and it has a lot of school spirit. It's not all bad. Sorry.
