Preaseason Unit Discussions: Offensive Line

Per the discussions earlier this week, I wanted to offer an experimental concept. During the preseason, let's discuss each of the units on the Chiefs in a particular thread.

Post your thoughts during the games or between games about individual performances.

This thread is for offensive linemen. How they doin'?

Probably already knew their best lineup involved Allen at RG and Stephenson at RT.
I'd agree. Probably spot on...

I had to turn the TV off at halftime to get some work done, but I have to say that Stephenson was looking good in the first half, and he was facing guys like Michael Bennett. While last year was a mystery for him, I'm hopeful that we'll see the athletic overachiever this season that we saw in 2014.

Jeff Allen has to play 14 games at RT and not finish as a bottom 1/3 RT in the league.

If Allen does end up playing the entire season, Rausch loves it when you make him put French shit in his signature

I'd be good with Levitre, though I don't think he has ever played RG.

Has to do with money most likely.

Quote:
Two years ago, the Tennessee Titans made a huge investment in guard Andy Levitre. As some point within the next two weeks, Levitre could be leaving town.

After 32 starts in 32 games with the team, Levitre is on the verge of losing his spot at left guard to newcomer Byron Bell, a free-agent acquisition from Carolina. If Levitre isn’t starting the Titans won’t want to pay him a base salary of $6.5 million.

He separately accounts for $2.1 million under the salary cap, due to the $10.5 million Levitre received as a signing bonus. And if he’s cut, the Titans would carry $4.2 million next year in dead money.

But $6.5 million in cash and cap savings would instantly be realized by moving on from Levitre.

Another possibility would be to squeeze him to take less money, or to trade him to another team. Plenty of offensive lines could use an infusion of talent right now. Then again, with the Titans not sold on the extent of Levitre’s skills, no one else may be interested in him — absent a steep reduction in his pay.

Regardless of how it plays out, Levitre seems to accept the possibility that he could be done in Nashville.

“If it doesn’t work out here, there’s other places,” Levitre recently said, via David Climer of the Tennessean.

There’s likely no other place that would pay him $6.5 million this season. And definitely no other place that would give him another $10.5 million up front or $19 million over two years, his total earnings to date in Tennessee.

Does just being pretty shitty count?

Because he's been pretty shitty in TN. Got paid; got bad.

I'm not sure a 29 yr old who's not missed a start in 6 years can truly qualify as a brokedick merely by virtue of being a lousy football player. If he can, then it would appear that Andy Levtre is, in fact, a brokedick.

It's weird. He was good with the Bills, then got bad when he got to TN. Got paid and got lazy? I don't know what happened there.

So this would be my best bet at the offensive line for this season....

LT - Fisher, Pughsley
LG - Grubbs, LDT
C - Morse, Kush
RG - Allen, Fulton
RT - Stephenson, Pughsley

Is anyone really surprised he got shitty going to Tennessee though? I mean, it seems they've become the more recent Raiders in that anything they touch just turns to shit.

Of course we lost to them so **** me right

So they signed some free agent dude and he's all of a sudden the better LG and deserves to be starting?

Anyway, I don't think Dorsey is going to be searching for new options, especially if they command lots of money and would have to make a switch to the other side of the line.

Levitre is 29. Some team will give him a multi-year deal I imagine. Probably won't be us. And honestly, I'm okay with that. It's Allen's and Stephenson's last year. See how well they do this year and if they'd be worth re-signing a somewhat cheaper extension. If not, I guess we'll go back to the drawing board and maybe look for some more Ben Grubbs-type deals.

Can't wait to draft an OT in the first next year.
