Because he is 32. A 3 year deal with 4th year option would be the best for what he is. Twins overpaid for a 4th and potentially 5th.

Right. At least a .750 OPS from the DH is still an upgrade for KC from what it got last season.

Morales was a little bit better in the second half last year, so there's some credence to the "sitting out" concept.

It's still underwhelming if that's their only offensive addition, and it doesn't help much against RHP.

Still could use an OF who can handle RF and hits well against lefties.

Detroit's current rotation (Guy in that spot last year):

David Price (David Price - wash)
Justin Verlander (Max Scherzer - sizeable gap)
Anibal Sanchez (Anibal Sanchez - wash)
Alfredo Simon (Justin Verlander - gap)
???? (Rick Porcello - sizeable gap)

Verdict: Worse at 3/5 spots

Detroit's lineup still has Victor Martinez and Miguel Cabrera, but it seems pretty likely that Martinez drops off a bit and a healthy Miggy bumps up a bit, washing each other out. Cespedes was actually worse with the bat last year than Hunter and is going to be playing RF, which he hates.

Anthony Gose is a downgrade from the Austin Jackson/Rajai Davis combo in CF last year.

JD Martinez could repeat his performance in Detroit last year, but would you put money on it? I wouldn't.

Cespedes, as discussed, would have actually been a downgrade in RF last year.

Castellanos probably gets better offensively but isn't a huge, difference-making bat.
