I think that's right. Last year, some of my facebook friends asked if I was happy about the Cubs, thinking I was one of their fans because I had lived in Chicago so long. (I went to college and grad school there.) I told them that I not only wasn't a Cubs fan but that I couldn't see how anyone could be a fan of a team that hadn't been to the finals in their sport in more than 50 years. Then I remembered that the Chiefs were at 46 years and counting. Now they are at 47 years. That helped me realize what a bunch of ****ing frauds they are. Now I root for them for the same reason why I don't hang up on phone calls after being left on hold for 10 ****ing minutes, out of a weird curiosity, not because I actually expect the ****ers to come through. If they do pull off a Super Bowl appearance before I die, I'll be content with that. I sure as **** am not going to be upset by a loss that puts us at 5-2 in a 16-game regular season, because as a Chiefs fan, I know good and damn well that regular season does not mean much. You're either good enough to make the playoffs or you're not. What really matters is what you do in the playoffs. The Chiefs, right now, look to me like they are very likely to make the playoffs, but I want to see how they do in January.

The Chiefs ain't Royal. The Royals have 4 pennants and 2 championships since the Chiefs' last Super Bowl appearance. And when the Royals needed to live up to my expectations for them during the 1970's and 80's and then again in 2015, they came through, with the players, coaches and front office performing like champions.

It's just not gonna happen.

There are a lot of things that have combined to make me much more of a passive observer of the Chiefs than the passionate, insane fan I once was. Kids mellowed out my sports enthusiasm significantly. The Cardinals winning the 2011 World Series in the most dramatic, perfect way imaginable was so fulfilling that I can't imagine everything topping it. The NFL's treatment of CTE was extremely off-putting to me, and the Chiefs' treatment of their staff and fans during Pioli's tenure was absolutely disgusting. I can't imagine patronizing a business that would treat their customers like that. Couple it all together with a league that has fully embraced Jimmy Raye's offensive philosophy of check downs, and I'm more around for the lulz than anything else.

I mean, this place is absolutely insane. You have people calling professional football players cowards, others who swear that a multi-billion dollar league is rigged (which would take a conspiracy of tens of thousands to successfully pull off), and others talking about burning jerseys because a guy had a bad game that actually wasn't a bad game if you paid attention. This is a ****ing asylum.

Now imagine Pioli earning another Super Bowl ring at the expense of the Chiefs, due to their inability to move beyond said philosophy.

It's enough to make a man...kill himself.

The Chiefs are a Hunt family product, and that means profit first. I'm not looking for a fight there, but it's pretty clear they don't have a "win at all cost" mindset from the top down. If they did heads would roll, and they don't.

Next, they have a formula for profit, keep the fans hooked on cyclic plans, make the occasional splash hire, and tell the fans it'll be OK.

But hey, that's JMO.
