Tough break. The Stroman injury was a killer. I didn't think about it much at the time. Looking back, it was probably the difference in race for HFA.

Devastating as he could have been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. Been unbelievable since his return, though. He deserved a better fate today.

That's not entirely true. The Giants were not a great HR hitting team last year. When they won two years ago they were dead last in the league in HRs. St. Louis made it to the World Series two years ago as the 3rd or 4th worst HR hitting team. It's not the steroid era anymore, and even then there are a lot of teams who've made it to the World Series in that 10-20 ranking in total HRs who've had plenty of success. There are plenty of teams who've had success hitting HRs in the playoffs, but there's certainly very little correlation between leading the league in HRs and playoff success.

***Official Division Series other games thread***
Watched the Odor play and the Donaldson-inspired bench clearing.
Agree that whatever was called on the field was being upheld there. No conclusive evidence that he was off the bag all the way. Donaldson is a red ass, no doubt about it. No way to tell if Kela said something to him there, but Donaldson's reaction definitely sparked that. Maybe he's just mad because he still doesn't know what it is like to win a playoff game? Side note: I think he's a giant douchebag, but he's a great player. And I know I'd love him if he played for my team. Anthopoulos definitely fleeced Beane on that deal.

I don't understand how anyone hits Kershaw's curveball. There have been 12 Ks in the first 2.5 innings of this game.
