Part of me says, **** it, if Houston doesn't want to be here let's use him to trade for Brees. Houston would be here for another year or 2 on a franchise tag. We could easily get a year or 2 out of Brees. As long as the Saints don't want more than a 4th rounder on top of Houston, I'd say why not....never gonna happen though.

From a pure '**** off Segal' standpoint, I'd love to see them grab Bud Dupree and tell them to shove their leverage up their ass.

You want the fans back? You bring back that nasty ass Raider defense with Mack and Houston and a high 2nd and 3rd round pick yet to use. This $3itbag team beat us last year with Houston on OUR side. Image the war crimes that would occur if Houston got to take on our offensive line...

If Ford and Dupree pan out, neither one of them are likely to ever be as good as Houston, to say the least. However, those are two absolute missiles. The speed those guys have as well as their raw physical gifts (first step, body lean, agility, etc...) is off the damn charts. Ford and Dupree in 2 years could easily be as good as Houston and a rapidly declining Hali were last year. It's risky as hell, no doubt, and there's no better than a 50/50 shot that they both actually pan out. Still, if they did, those two could absolutely wreck shit.

I wonder what the top dollar KC has offered Houston really is...the agent seemed to indicate that his client deserves to be paid as the top non quarterback in the NFL and was the same agent that caused Houston to be the last player from that draft to sign his rookie slotted contract. Same guy that convinced Chris Jognson to sit out till week 10 before getting that stupid contract Tennessee is probably still paying for.
IMO Houston should fire his agent. |

There is virtually no way the Chiefs could afford to trade for Brees. You would have to trade Alex Smith and that would escalate the remaining $14M of his signing bonus to all hit this year.
Simultaneously, you'd be carrying an $18M salary for Brees. You could maybe extend by two years, converting that salary to bonus, and then the cap number would drop down to around $5-6M this year. Then you're paying $21M for Brees this year and $23M next year. I mean, actually, nevermind. You could do it. But it would take a hell of a lot of financial wizardry and I'm not sure you could get the deal done by Thursday, which is when Alex's salary becomes guaranteed. |

Fair enough
They really need to divide up the tag $ within the Oline. OT's are spiking the numbers. Still, I would think a long term contract would allow them to structure a better cap number than the tag does.

You don't need a guy like Brees if you have the right 53.

The Chiefs saved themselves a lot of money by extending him when they did. Can you imagine how much Alex would have demanded after the season he just had? Smart move by the Chiefs.
