Carjacking at 95th & Monrovia with baby in car ends safely

So, a car was stolen\jacked at a Bank of America at 95th & Monrovia tonight with a 5 month old baby in the back. The car and baby were found at 79th & Wornall and the baby is safe.

This ended well but it happens too often. This is the perfect case for CCW, imo. Apparently one of the passengers was hit in the leg with a bat. It is unclear if the person was trying to save the child or not.

Having said that, what would you do if someone tried to take your car with your child in the back seat? It's a very scary thought but these days it seems to be one we must confront on a daily basis.

If i had to make a guess just by reading CP, i'd guess that more middle class suburban households fear they're in danger than those who live/lived in poverty/sketchy parts of town.

So weird how that works.

That said, common sense says it's lower than that because so much of the gun violence and deaths are over domestic issues. So unless you and your wife are both packing heat around the house, it's pretty safe to say the change of being killed by a gun is even significantly lower.

Everyone always talks about how Johnson County is such a great place to raise a family and live. Yet you feel the need to carry a weapon, as if you live in 1980's Compton.
Gee, I feel better now seeing as you schooled on me and what not.

I don't care if you feel the need to carry a gun or not. Don't care at all.

But from my perspective, it's ridiculous that you feel the need to carry a gun in Overland Park or Lenexa or Olathe or wherever in Johnson County and that you're suffering from an irrational fear.

I grew up in a "sketchy" part of town. I now live in a nice suburb. If you believe what you posted then I'd say you haven't lived in a bad part of town. It's because I lived in a bad part of town that I know what can happen, where it can happen and who criminals love to target.

What's weird is thinking it can't ever happen to you because, you know, you know stuff and stuff.

Yeah, because crime never happens in Johnson County. People don't ever cross the state line to go purse snatching or car thieving. Which is why my Wife's purse that was stolen in Olathe ended up in a liquor store that ironically my family owns on 79th & Troost. Or just like the OP, where the car stolen in Lenexa ends up at 70th & Wornall because, nothing ever happens in Johnson County.

I buy insurance because the states requires me to have it to drive. I don't normally lock my doors when I drive but my truck does it automatically which I find quite annoying.

No shit! I mean locking your doors just means you're replacing the entire door and door jam after it gets kicked in.

To protect investments. It's required with a home loan, car loan, etc. Have you've ever seen a hospital bill without insurance company adjusted rates?

Considering you think you know something based on your first statement, why don't you tell me where I grew up, dickhead?

I grew up in Northeast KC and then South KC at 77th & Troost. I've worked at 27th & Van Brunt. Right across from the police station which ironically, the 7-11, also across from the police station, was robbed almost daily.

But tell us all how you know something, tough guy.

I understand wanting to own guns. I just don't understand wanting to carry it on you at all times for personal protection. Any situation that you yank out a pistol, you inherently only make that situation escalate, often to the point that you must use it. However, if you had not drawn the pistol, you are out a couple hundred bucks or whatever your insurance doesn't cover. Is it worth risking your life and the lives of those around you for a few hundred bucks?
