Schefter: Chiefs leaning towards firing Pioli

Schefter: Chiefs mulling big change
December, 30, 2012
DEC 30 1:50PM ET
By Bill Williamson | ESPN.com

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that he expects the Kansas City Chiefs to fire coach Romeo Crennel.

As for general manager Scott Pioli, Schefter reports the Chiefs -- mired in a miserable 2-13 season -- are leaning toward firing Pioli.

If I had to guess, I’d say both Crennel and Pioli are going to be fired. They are a package deal. I think if the Hunt family had its druthers, it would give both men another chance. But the fan fury is so great in Kansas City, I think the Hunts will be compelled to make a move.

I don’t think firing one of the two and keeping the other will work.

Pioli has hired two coaches -- Todd Haley and Crennel -- since joining the Chiefs in 2009. I don’t necessarily think he will get a chance to hire a third. If that is what is the case, I think the Chiefs will likely make a clean sweep and hire a new general manager (Bill Polian, anyone?) first and then a head coach.

We shall soon see. I don’t think the Hunts will wait long before making a decision.

And those people comprise Clark's primary market. Unquestionably. The loyal, faithful Chief Sheep.

Kind of hard to argue with this logic.
So if he keeps Pioli, what's the leash on him?

Hey he's breaking in a new QB and coach, right? That's gotta be worth another couple of seasons, right?

So 4-12 in 2013, 6-10 in 2014 ... That's some progress.

Dayton ****ing Moore and Scott ****ing Pioli. David ****ing Glass and Clark ****ing Hunt.

WTF am I a fan of these teams?

I agree. This would be the ownership equivalent of shitting all over the fan base to the point that even Winston would cringe.

The Deb type fans are in small minority, just like most of us are in small minority. That middle class fan that wants to see the team do well/have fun at the game/casual fan is the money making machine. Its what Carl Peterson knew the best with the marketing research they had. A dick sucker like Pioli makes it impossible for that for that big casual group as well.

There is a "name" I haven't heard in a while.

I'm not so sure. Your words of death have an iron-like quality, though, so I'll ponder the issue some more.

Right now, however, I have to believe that the majority of "Chiefs fans" will buy any change (be it HC, QB, whatever) as sufficient to encourage them to pay the fare.

I hear you, and I'm not sure of my reaction. It's easy to say, "I'm done with this franchise."

But this is the type of emotional reaction that might not be honest or realistic. I've been following this piece of shit organization for decades, so this isn't the type of interest that can be turned on or off like a switch.

I understand that Pioli's pomp and incompetence has been eroding passion and general interest, but any organization is far larger than one person...

Tough situation for fans.

I will admit, I want to draft a QB SO BAD, I don't know if I will be able to quit watching, even if it is Pioli that is doing the drafting.

They could just rent a house together or something. Why does their relationship have to interfere with my enjoyment of the Chiefs.

PUT ON YOUR TIN FOIL HAT:

Is it possible that Clark wanted a franchise quarterback and told Pioli to tank this season to get the top pick to get one and that if he did so his job would be safe?

I know for a fact that he made it clear to Herm Edwards that he wanted the team to play the young players in 2008 in hopes of getting them experience and putting the team in position to draft a quarterback...but these two things are totally different.

Ok, you can take the tin foil hats off. That idea is silly.

Clark is a business man. He hasn't lost money a single year Pioli has been here.
Has any team ever lost money?
