So where have |Zach| and all the Soccer fans gone?

These guys were out in force last year.

I thought Sporting had surpassed the Royals in popularity?

Ok, I'll try to further clarify this for those of you who are clearly mentally challenged.

I don't have a problem with soccer. I actually enjoy watching the national teams play and follow the World Cup closely. I'll watch an EPL game if I find it and there's nothing else on and I don't watch to jump over to Netflix or fire up the Xbox.

I just can't buy MLS as a a "major" league, and therefore can't get too excited about winning in that league. Not yet.

Maybe the ESPN deal changes that. We'll see.
Part of the fun of MLS, to me anyway, is being a part of the growth of the league. It's been pretty rewarding, so far. Watching new teams join, beautiful stadiums popping up, unique supporter atmospheres being created, and better and better quality of play is pretty cool, to me at least.

MLS has also taken the lead in creating all-encompassing brand identities for their teams (The NBA is starting to do this now). They are engaging fans better than any other league on the planet. For instance, MLS just released their new league logo, which (by design) featured a negative space inviting any and all fans to create alternate designs and customize the logo for the team that they supported.

Here's the new logo:

Here's what fans were doing with it online within hours:

If people want to hate on Soccer, I can certainly understand. Like learning any new sport, you have to develop an interest in it.

To even waste the energy to click on the thread while here to spew reerunation is still psychopathic. It's a bit less energy but my point is still valid.

SKC supporters get flamed on this board, as the Royals supporters used to at one point... there were literally 15-20 posters that would follow them religiously.. even when they sucked... now everyone is a fan all of sudden..

This is a football board.. I get that.. Soccer is gay and baseball is now popular cause we win games in the playoffs...

I stopped posting because its dumb.. you get shit on when you are positive about the chiefs... you get shit on when you support SKC and you used to get shit on when you supported the Royals, until now...

And you wonder why all the good posters leave and lurk instead of contribute...
Is the CONCACAF Champions League basically the UEFA Champions League for the Americas? I know many European elite teams don't give a shit about their league standing, as long as they qualify for the Champion's league.

Just for the record, I don't hate soccer. It's not my thing and it doesn't bother me that other people enjoy it. It's the arrogance of some of the pro soccer crowd that gets under my skin, and more specifically Zach and the way he was always purposefully obnoxious about it.

And yes, there are douchebags on the other side of the fence as well, but that pretty much goes with the nature of this board. People make snarky comments in NASCAR threads as well and there isn't this level of butthurt among the fans of that "sport".

Yup. It's the whole "You cavemen are behind the times! Everyone in the world outside of the meatheads in the US love soccer! You're the dumbasses!" mentality that is keeping the sport from growing more than it is. That attitude turns people off on it imo.

What's keeping the sport from growing more is the sport.

I think what is preventing the sport from growing more than it is is the fact that the US is an also-ran when it comes to soccer. Our "major" soccer league is about the 7th or 8th best league in the world, which hardly screams 'major.'

It just doesn't have enough momentum at the lower levels... sure millions of kids in the US play soccer every year, but that quantity is not being funneled into high level development and training programs like it is elsewhere in the world. Just too many distractions and pulls for time away from what is more of a hobby than a passion for most who play it.

( And before someone asks, this is not my 'meh-on-soccer' take... that's basically word for word from my neighbor, who played soccer in college and coaches in an AAU youth program currently)

The annoying people are the ones who act like if you don't like it, it's because you're not sophisticated enough to be entertained by it.

But there is a flip side, which is the people who troll soccer threads because they don't like it. Who cares if you don't like it? Don't bump the threads if you don't like it.

That's actually a very compelling argument. I couldn't argue against it, but I am a very casual soccer fan. I don't know nearly enough to be able to intelligently find holes in that if there are some.

As someone who enjoys the games and the threads, I actually find it funny. Now, granted I am a casual fan, but it's almost a sideshow that I can see turns a lot of people off, but I've always been amused by dumbassery...what can I say?

That is in your mind. Big things happen for SKC on Saturdays and Sunday's...if it happens the Cheifs or Royals had a bad time of it you were all sensitive about the whole thing.
