Colin's touchdown pass to Boldin was as pretty a pass as I've ever seen in the NFC championship game. Even Kap's last interception was a very close run thing. It is 40 seconds on the clock with 3 timeouts and Kap has Sherman playing man on Crabtree. If Crabtree catches it, the game is won. If it falls incomplete, the clock stops with 20 seconds and 2 timeouts, and Kap jogs to the sideline to discuss the next play with Harbaugh. The key was to insure that Sherman doesn't intercept the pass. Well Sherman didn't intercept the pass. If the ball is batted anywhere else, or if Smith is not playing so deep on 49ers RB Kendall Hunter, then it is a harmless incompletion. It just so happened that Smith was deep enough to lunch for the interception when Sherman batted the ball right toward him. It was an extremely close thing, and pre-snap, there is no way Kap would have expected Smith to be that close to Sherman on the coverage. It was strictly man coverage and Smith was on Kendall Hunter. That is what Kap saw and why he threw it. |

The team around kap is elite. Kap right now is the governor. If you want to see a clutch qb, maybe you should go watch the last drive of the pro bowl.

Funny how Kap is being ragged on here. Well, Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas begs to differ, singing high praise for Kaepernick.
Here’s Thomas: Quote:
So go on slamming Kap. I'll take the opinion of the Pro Bowl safety who had to defend him and who almost lost to him, thanks. Link to article below: http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2014/01...r-right-there/ Like I said, that pass to Boldin was one of the prettiest passes I've seen in an NFL championship game. Stellar. |

As if any professional starting NFL quarterback is a complete finished product after only 30 starts. Do you think maybe San Diego now wishes they waited more than 60 starts for Drew Brees to play consistently?
Do younthink maybe having over 90 career starts might be a little bit of the reason that Alex is "savvy", or do you think he was just born that way? I will never understand the impatience of fans that can't even wait for a QB to have 2 complete years as a starter before giving up on a guy. It just boggles my mind. So not a single word about Kaepernick's pass to Anquan Boldin, eh? |

I thought that pass was a terrible decision.
Thomas got a hand on it and probably makes the play more often than he doesn't. |

It was a chuck. A hell of a chuck but a Favre-esk chuck none the less. Defense was right there. The sniper rifle head shot doesn't get you bonus points in the NFL. The hopin' deep sloppy drop-backs and feet and shoulders opened up. The ball is not protected well. This stuff bothered me last year. Bothered me this year. He is 26 years old, this isn't good. Alex Smith was getting it in 2010 when he was 26. Colin this year in the red-zone 57% completion rate Alex in 2010 71% completion rate This is before the last 2 seasons. Quote:
I can live with Alex Smith being not good enough. What really bothers me is Colin not being ready enough. The occasion complete fails or run of the mill face plants. What is amazing is that rollercoaster of wow and barf in that game from Kaepernick was the best game he played in a loss this year. Smith had 4 games for KC this year in loses that were better than that game. Haughbaugh might of completely blown it but it doesn't look like it because the 49ers are a great team outside of the QB. But the media misses the story because they don't care, their is a easy story to tell either way. After 3 years the real story might be not so fun. The wild gamble on the QB with no experience and fundamental flaws showed up eventually and the team fell short of winning a super bowl. If you win 1 very few people will care to say that Harbaugh is not a QB whisper genius but a fraud who happened into great spots with Andrew Luck and a 49ers team that had all the key pieces in place. And the smarter decision was to go with the not great but dependable Alex Smith. As the 49ers would of likely won 1 of the Super Bowls with him on that team in 2012, 13 or 14. Defenses have realized Kaepernick is not Alex Smith or Andrew Luck. Can Harbaugh get that fact and change the offense? The problem is it doesn't appear to be open to a lot of changes. The O-Line are a heavy bunch not built for a more open faster pace like a Chip Kelly. Gore is a between the tackles RB. The WRs are not down-field playmakers. Vernon Davis just doesn't have much utility other than what he does great. |

He threw the same past later and it was picked off He's an idiot and is the reason why they lost in the SB and in the NFCC.

Flipped to and watching the NFC replay right now.
SF 17-20 4th Q 13:37 1st and 10 Pretends to read the defense. Goes back to Blodin and chucks it 20 yards down-field into tight coverage. Incomplete. Was a perfectly clean pocket. Hunter was WIDE OPEN checkdown 5 yards and he easily runs for the 1st down. The 3rd and 1 before the fumble play. DELAY OF GAME It was a designed run and would of likely worked the SEA DE pass rushed way too far outside and was out of position. The fumble play. I have No idea what he was looking at. Looks right at Earl Thomas in the middle of the field. Then looks at Patton who is the only guy to the left. Then bails left. If he moved forward in the pocket he can look right, see and throw it to Boldin who got space and will have a 1st down. The INT by Chancelor. Crappy play-action fake. Crappy late never actually sets his feet in the pocket because he bounces back 10 yards from the LOS. Looks at Boldin, pats and slings it to the defender. Once again Hunter was WIDE OPEN checkdown 5 yards and running 3rd and 2 The near INT over the smaller SEA DB. Hops up and down in a too deep drop back. Stares down Crabtree the whole way. Once again Hunter was WIDE OPEN checkdown for the 1st down Last play INT We've all seen it. Patton uncovered and he can get an easy 5 yards and out of bounds to save the 2 timeouts to be able to run the ball if you got close and wanted to run the ball. You expect this sort of stuff from the likes of Geno Smith. He's 23, he's a rookie. Colin Kaepernick did this stuff all the time in 2012. Still doing it in 2013. Kap is young and still learning. In a young player, I would much rather see him be too aggressive than be a pussy. Aggression can be tempered and harnessed with coaching and experience. There is nothing you can do to make a timid player be bold when needed. But I respect your opinion on the throw. You hate for your team to have to live and die on risky, low percentage throws. It catches up with you. Smart play is a must. |

It wasn't a "great" throw. It was a hope and a prayer.
Dude can't play qb from the pocket. Until he learns (if he does) he's going to have to be a glorified running back with a great arm. They give him 18 mil per year, that's a death blow to that team. |

You couldn't wait to get rid of Alex Smith to be done with him, but here you are, almost a FULL YEAR LATER, still on the Chiefs message board. It really is mind bottling how much love you have for Kaep, and how much hate you have for Alex Smith, yet, here you are. And with Green Rep. That is truly astonishing.
