Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

I'm not saying he'll the best hire, but he's sure not the worst we can do. I'm just saying if that's the way Clark goes (it is his team and his choice), I hope they bring him in here and give him all the tools he needs to do the best job, including good physical health..
The reason I am pumping my fist for holmgren is... The guy is maybe the best quarterback guy in the nfl. Period. If after five years, his only accomplishment is grooming a franchise qb you can use for 10 more years, he was an extraordinary success. Reid's success with quarterbacks... He has done a lot worse with much better talent.

No to Holmgren.

Finally got through this ****ing monster thread.

I'm okay with the way things are right now as long as Pioli is ultimately gone.

However, if he is here in any capacity once the new HC is hired, then this franchise, and Clark Hunt, is nothing but a ****ing joke.

If you have cancer, you cut it out.

You don't leave it to fester and grow.

Pioli got an extension. The backlash (SOC) and our shitty season caused Clark to want Pioli out. They're working on a buy out as we speak.
Here's what makes no sense about this scenario - Clark Hunt has zero leverage.

Negotiate a buyout? Why? !@#$ you very much, Clark - you signed a contract and you will pay it off.

The only reason the Pioli people would have any motivation to settle would be if Pioli had a 2nd job already lined up. The reason being that if there is no 'settlement' and Hunt has to fire him and pay him the amount in his contract, that amount would be off-set by any salary that Pioli gets in his next job (the damages will have been mitigated).

If Pioli had, say, a million dollar gig lined up, he would want to get a buyout rather than a breach of contract payment because any salary he then draws would be in addition to the buyout, rather than in lieu of a breach of contract payment. So let's say he's owed $5 million, he would be wise to accept a $4.5 million buyout and take a $1 million salary in his next gig, for a total of $5.5 million. If he forces the firing and leans on the contract language for his 'owed' salary, that million he gets from the next employer would just serve to offset the damages owed under the first contract and he'd end up at $5 million...just from two different employers.

Alternatively, Hunt could be threatening to fire him for cause, but that seems unlikely. The ageism suit hasn't been resolved, so you're trying to use mere allegations at this point to justify termination for cause and that's just not likely to stick.

I dunno...in the end I don't think this is a buyout thing. I think Hunt really still believes in Pioli's football acumen and his hopeful that the next coach (even a 'name' coach) will want to work with him.

Didn't help him in Cleveland at all. At 64 he will not have the energy to reset the direction of this franchise.

Lackluster. Just sat around on CP that night. But I was very thankful for surviving another year. It was difficult but made me stronger.

It didn't work in green bay when he was coach and gm. It didn't work in Denver for shanahan when he had the same role. Why in the world do people continue to point out his GM track record as if he means something? Holmgren isn't a good gm. He is one hell of a coach. Like shanahan, he will return and improve the team he coaches.

We have to see how it plays out. The buyout has nowhere to go but down. Pioli is an egomaniac. So you have to assume that pioli would rather operate in a neutered role with his tail between his legs. Or maybe he accepts a cooshy buyout then moves to a role where he has more power.

I don't think so. Clark is done with him.

I don't see Cowher, Reid, or Gruden working with him.

Hopefully, for you guys anyways, Clark has already started finding a potential GM replacement for Pioli. If he waits too long there won't be anybody worth a damn left and you might be better off keeping Pioli (as crazy as that sounds)
