So, I didn't see a thread started, and all the others are pretty maxed out to the point where a fresh thread would be needed soon either way.

Time to share the run up to ST & and another memorable year in the making!

His previous 3 year OPS was .740. I'm just wondering if last year he was down because he didn't have spring training and was signed late.

If I had to take one, I think I'd rather have Morales.

My preference though would have been neither and save that money for RF.

I can't believe we just did this, I can't believe we did it for 2 years, I can't believe anyone in the AL even wanted him for FREE, and I can't believe Dayton misses Fat Ass

This is incredible. We've spent half our $ now, and didn't gain a goddamn thing

Definitely not a SHREWD deal. They're clearly banking on him returning to form.

Very similar to the Ervin Santana deal a few years ago, really.
Put the Vargas deal in that category as well. Dayton has done a good job of identifying guys that are due for a rebound as of late...let's hope this is one of those instances.

Yeah, that was a bad moment in the MLB Network interview and I would bet he regrets saying that.

Don't know if it means he wishes they had Butler on-roster for this year or he wishes he'd held onto Butler so he could trade him.

GENERAL WARNING TO ALL ROYALS FANS:

Morales is slow and hits into double plays. Be prepared!

Saving money is bullshit. We went to the ****ing World Series. Our payroll should be able to hit $110M if we so choose. But wasting money on dipshit Morales is irritating

With all due respect, what are you basing that on?

Do you have insider knowledge that contradicts what was otherwise reported -- that he suffered the rib injury in the last start of the season, when he went only 2 IP vs. the ChiSox, as opposed to the 6 IP he went against Cleveland in his first start after being pulled after one pitch in NY?

Maybe the shoulder injury altered his mechanics and caused the rib injury?

Why would they initially claim shoulder to hide the fact that he had a rib? I can definitely see hiding the injury once the playoffs started. But I don't see the value of claiming a potentially more serious injury in early September to cover up for less-serious one. Maybe I'm just missing something.

I'm just happy we'll have a legitimate DH. Although I'm sure they'll try to rotate guys through there from time to time. He's hit well in poor hitter's parks. If he returns to being a .780ish OPS guy with a 2-3 WAR, it's not a bad deal. I'm assuming they're not done.

This isn't even a money saving move, though. That's the frustrating part. We had no one bidding against us (at least that we know of).

In short, we just hit the 'Buy it Now for $50' button on Ebay when the bid was at $5 with minutes left in the auction.

Was told the other day that "it was his ribs the whole way" in reference to September.

Didn't discuss that any more than that, but it's what I was basing that off of.

As a fan, I'm willing to give Morales a pass on 2014. Still, if I'm a GM I'd use it against him to get him on a one-year, prove it contract with lower base and higher incentive.
