****The 2018 NFL Draft Thread**** (No Spoilers)

Let's ****ing do this.

Last year was a one-of-a-kind, so let's hope the luck carries over to this year, with Brett Veach at the helm for the first time.

Rules:
1. No spoiled picks in this thread, all weekend. This means that as tweets are leaking picks a few minutes before the selection is announced live, you don't post it in this thread (ex: embedded tweets), reference it in this thread (ex: Joe Slapdick says it's McCaffrey to Tampa) or hint at it (ex: "it's a RB!").

Don't be a dick.

Otherwise, have fun, talk shit, freak out and lose your goddamned minds. It's Draft Weekend. The hot takes in these threads are so funny.

I'll also be starting threads for each of our picks as they are made, with videos and notable stats/takes in the OP. Pure knee jerk gold to reference in the future.

*Note: For 2017 hilariousness, view that thread here.

Veach was the man behind Mahomes and Jones.
No one is going to hit on every pick. But Veach certainly can say he has hit on some damn good ones. That's for sure.

So when the Chiefs pick a DB in the 3rd that people thought they should have drafted at 46 are they still idiots?

Oliver was going to fix our defense. He was going to rush the passer, stuff the run and cover down field lockdown style.

Why can't you get that?

With Oliver, Davis, Meeks, Averett, Hill etc still there, I'm still confident we will get a decent CB tonight. Although IF Hurst is still there then maybe they go for him first.

Difference is Speaks has actually played as an EDGE in college

Speaks is a 6'3 EDGE, Tanoh was a 6'7 Defensive Tackle. Huge difference

People keep saying project. Where does this come from? He played in the SEC against the best OL prospects in the country, had production. He's not some JUCO transfer w/ 3 years of football experience. I haven't followed the draft this year at all, but I haven't seen anything that suggests this kid isn't ready to contribute in some way.

How is he ANYTHING like Passonwhatever (other than Reid's rather strange comments)?

****The 2018 NFL Draft Thread**** (No Spoilers)

I’m leaving this here before I go to get blitzed.

Kent Swanson

[quote]
NFL Draft results: Chiefs trade up, select Breeland Speaks at pick 46

Kent Swanson

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft to select Ole Miss DT Breeland Speaks.

Projected Draft Range: late day two to early day three

Prospect grade (out of 100): 72.9

I would take him in the: fourth round

One sentence bio: Early entry, Mississippi native and Criminal Justice major.

One sentence scouting report: Athletic, diverse, but developmental interior defensive lineman.

Reaction: We made fun of the Raiders for trading back from 10 to 15 for pennies on the dollar. The Chiefs just significantly overpaid on the draft trade chart to move up for an athletic, but developmental interior defensive lineman. I’m not sure what scared the Chiefs into this decision. Maybe they were desperate to get rid of that third round selection that was scheduled to get free pizza for a year.

Speaks is a player with a good athletic profile who tested well at the NFL Combine. On the field he flashes the traits but struggles to be consistent. His pass rushes get stalled too much for my liking, and his eye discipline needs work.

Is there a lot to work with? Yes. Is he ready to contribute right away? I don’t know. There is a path for the Speaks to develop into a nice interior lineman. I just don’t like the move this early, on an overpay in draft capital.

BREELAND SPEAKS:
Walter Football.com |Detroit Lions | 3rd Round | 82nd overall pick

Draftsite.com | Cincinnati Bengals |4th round | 112th overall pick

NFL.com (Chad Reuter) Seattle Seahawks | 5th round | 141st overall pick

Land of 10 | Oakland Raiders | 4th round | 110th overall pick

Draft Wire | Oakland Raiders | 6th round | 210th overall pick

San Diego Tribune | Los Angeles Rams | 6th round | 183rd overall pick

Bleacher Report (Matt Miller) | Philadelphia Eagles | 4th round | 131st pick

SteelersDepot.com | Dallas Cowboys | 6th round | 192nd overall pick

Chiefs 2018 draft picks

Round 3 (86)

Round 3 (100)

Round 4 (122)

Round 4 (124)

Round 6 (196)

Round 7 (233)

Round 7 (243)
